Beginning on April 1 6/1 7, our church will be participating in The Baby Bottle Project benefiting The Women's Centers of Greater Chlcagoland. This non-profit organization directly assists mothers and families experiencing crisis pregnancies by offering emotional, financial, material, and spiritual support through counseling, clothing & monetary provisions, prayer, and other aid. Each year the three locations together have over 5,000 appointments with expecting mothers. By God's Grace, The Women's Centers have saved over 38,000 babies and their mothers from abortion since opening in 1 984. Please take a Baby Bottle home with you from the church on April 1 0, fill it with your spare change, and return it the weekend ofapril 30/May 1. This is a simple, but crucial fundraising effort for The Women's Centers. Please note the Baby Bottles cost almost $1.00 per bottle and are recycled afterwards so please return upon completion of the project. Thank you for helping defend life, and remember to keep all pro-life undertakings in your prayers. Por Favor, llévese una botella de bebe a su hogar, deposite sus monedas, y devuelva aquí la botella antes de la Santa Misa el fin de semana del la abril 30 Mayo 1. [Por favor, toma solamente una botella eor familia.] Muchas aracias! Real Presence Paul Turner Catholics hold strongly their belief in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. This presence happens "by the conversion of the bread and wine into Christ's body and blood" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1 375). This transformation takes place during the eucharistic prayer at every Mass. Christ is present in other ways. The Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy from the Second Vatican Council says that Christ is present in the sacrifice of the Mass in the priest, in the readings, and in the church. He is present "especially under the Eucharistic species" (7). For this reason, when Catholics present themselves in the communion line, they hear the minister proclaim, "The Body of Christ" and "The Blood of Christ." They answer "Amen" to each of these statements, affirming their belief in the real presence of Christ in every communion. In a similar way, to conclude the proclamation of the Gospel, the people hear "The Gospel of the Lord," and they address their words not to the priest or deacon who proclaimed the Gospel but to Christ, who is present in his word: "Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ." Nonetheless, "the mode of Christ's presence under the Eucharistic species is unique" (CCC, 1 374). After Mass, the real presence of Christ remains in the consecrated bread stored in the tabernacle. There it is commonly called the Blessed Sacrament. Outside of Mass, a consecrated host may be set within a monstrance and reverently placed on the altar for the adoration of the faithful. This event is called exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Christ is truly present in the consecrated elements whether we are receiving him in holy communion or adoring him in the Blessed Sacrament. He has come that his followers may have life, and have it more abundantly. Copyright 2015 Resource Publications, Inc.
