The Men s Ministry has been busy this summer: In August the Iron Men small groups met for a BBQ dinner at Toro Park where each group leader shared what they were currently studying. Oh, did I mention that the tri-tip, and the chicken and the ribs, cooked by master chef, Derrel Simpson, was out of this world? There were 22 in attendance, much more than those that had responded to the invitation, and there was not a morsel of food left over! Amazing how God provides the fishes and loaves for those who serve him. In September we attended Cherries Jubilee after a great buffet dinner at El Toritos on Cannery Row in Monterey. After dinner we walked up and down Cannery Row admiring all the classic cars lined up along the streets and in every parking lot. What can be better..men.food. and old cars. On October 4 th all the men and their families were invited to see the movie Courageous in downtown Salinas. What no food? Now, would we have an event for men without food? Those who could make it, met at Casa Sorrento for pizza with the entire family at 4:30 PM and then went to watch the movie at 6:30 PM at the Maya Cinema. Around 80 people from FBC (and invited guest) attended this event.
After the movie, for the next several days, as small groups met, members talked about the impact the movie made. It was a great reminder that men have to provide the leadership in the family, not just financially, but also spiritually. In August, Doug Block and Jim Tripp attended a Men s Ministry Workshop, put on by Men s Ministry Catalyst, which was held at a church in Rancho Cordova, east of Sacramento, and the group discussed ideas of how to make men s ministry work in churches of all different sizes. What works for a mega church is not possible with a smaller church. We are considered a medium size church and we came away with some ideas of how to improve our men s ministry. This newsletter is one such idea. http://mensministrycatalyst.org/ Here is some other information of general interest: There is a story in The Blaze newsletter about the church in Georgia on HOW THE CHURCH BEHIND COURAGEOUS IS MAKING HOLLYWOOD BLOCKBUSTERS & IMPACTING A GENERATION You can go to this link to read the story and, if interested, sign up for the Blaze newsletter to be sent to your email periodically. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/how-the-church-behind-courageous-ismaking-hollywood-blockbusters-impacting-a-generation/ You can also sign up to receive a weekly devotional from Men s Ministry Catalyst if you would like: http://mensministrycatalyst.org/index.asp Finally, we would appreciate feedback about what you think about this newsletter and its content and about what additional content you would like to see included in the future.
