LIGHTING OF THE CANDLES GREETING and ANNOUNCEMENTS PRELUDE *INTROIT Sing Joy! The Chancel Choir *CALL TO WORSHIP (Responsively) In every heart, there lies a Bethlehem: A place where light shines with tender memories, A place where angelic voices are clearer, A place of wonder and awe, delight and calm, A place where the humility of shepherds and the wisdom of Magi embrace. In my heart, I prize my Bethlehem moments. Come to Bethlehem, kneel in wonder, Worship with songs of praise. *HYMN O Little Town of Bethlehem UMH 230 *OPENING PRAYER With hearts open wide, we journey to the stable. Amazing God, tender child, we offer you our words brimming with joy. We offer our hands ready to lift those who have fallen. We offer our hearts persistent in loving and faithful in caring. Amazing God, tender child, we thank you for the reason to sing carols and gather friends and family together. Thank you for this season of star and song. Amen. CHOOSE YOUR FAVORITE CHRISTMAS HYMN Dean Shinn HEBREW SCRIPTURE MICAH 5:2-5A (NRSV) 2But you, O Bethlehem of Ephrathah, who are one of the little clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to rule in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient days. 3 Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she who is in labor has brought forth; then the rest of his kindred shall return to the people of Israel. 4 And he shall stand and feed his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of 2

the name of the LORD his God. And they shall live secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth; 5 and he shall be the one of peace. EPISTLE LESSON COLOSSIANS 3:12-17 (NRSV) 12As God s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. 13 Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. The Word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God. GIVING OF OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS OFFERTORY PRAYER (In Unison) O God of infinite love, we continue to celebrate the birth of your Holy Child. Although born in humble surroundings, Jesus presence surrounds all who call upon his name. The hope born in a manger long ago is birthed again in us. We gratefully offer our financial gifts as a way to provide hope for all of God s children. We rejoice in knowing that your ministry is strengthened by our gifts and prayers. We pray in the name of the Babe in the Manger. Amen. OFFERTORY *PRESENTATION OF GIFTS In the Bleak Midwinter (V 4) UMH 221 What can I give him, poor as I am? If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb; If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part; Yet what I can I give him: give my heart. *HYMN Like a Child TFWS 2092 3
