From the Desk of the Transitional Pastor Tim Binns - Tim s Thoughts Grumblings, complaining, gossip, slander! What is coming out of your mouth? As the Pastor search continues, discouragement can start setting in. Do not allow this to happen. Because when you allow your heart to become discouraged, you are showing a lack of faith in the timing of our Heavenly Father as well as becoming a griper or complainer. The church body should not be a part of that. This type of action begins with a gripe about the lack of something and continues to attack others. Church members attacking others or judging others is actually sin. A shame is that it happens in the open where others can hear what is being said. What should you do? Do not be a part of negative talk. Refuse to listen to it and let the person know you do not want to hear it. Titus 3:10 says, Reject a divisive person after a first and second warning. Proverbs 17:14 says, To start a conflict is to release a flood; stop the dispute before it breaks out. 1 Corinthians 15:33 says, Do not be deceived: Bad company corrupts good morals. Paul really spells it out in 2 Corinthians 12:20, For I fear that perhaps when I come I will not find you to be what I want, and I may not be found by you to be what you want; there may be quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorder. So as you decide to chat with your friends about the church, think about what you are saying. If what you are saying is negative, maybe you need a heart adjustment. Jesus warned us in Luke 6:45, A good man produces good out of the good storeroom of his heart. An evil man produces evil out of the evil storeroom, for his mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart. Paul begins the conclusion of his letter to the Philippians in chapter 4 verse 8, Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise dwell on these things. He reminds us about where our mind and talk should be. I love what he wrote in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 to remind us about the spiritual attitude that we should always have: 16 Rejoice always! 17 Pray constantly. 18 Give thanks in everything, for this is God s will for you in Christ Jesus. Pastor Tim Daniel Young - Grace Notes Slaves, obey your human masters with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as to Christ. Don t work only while being watched, in order to please men, but as slaves of Christ, do God s will from your heart. Serve with a good attitude, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that whatever good each one does, slave or free, he will receive this back from the Lord. (Eph. 6:5-8) Happy New Year! Many people are resolving these days to be better people in some way. Maybe you want to develop a workout routine, eat better, be a better employee or spouse or parent, or perhaps serve in the church in a new area. A new year is full of new and wonderful possibilities. Whatever else the new year holds in store, we know this: Life takes effort. Life is work. To do life well takes work. Looking at the above verses, the slaves of Paul s day were no exception. And they were not what we consider slaves today. They were not all taken by force from another country and made to lead subservient lives. Slaves were employees. And Paul called them to work in the sincerity of your heart, as to Christ. What a statement! Do everything you do to the glory of God! Whether someone is watching you or not, give your best to Christ. Serve genuinely in the sincerity of your heart. Whether you are your own boss or if you have a boss, do good work. In fact, do your best work possible because you serve Christ in everything. In this new year, resolve to obey Christ in every sphere of your life, serving and working for Him. This is why: Whatever good each one does... he will receive this back from the Lord.
