Second Congregational UCC The ADVANCE FACEBOOK: Second Congregational UCC, Grand Rapids What s Your BHAG for 2019? Have you ever heard of "BHAG?" It s pronounced "beehag," and it stands for "big hairy audacious goals." I m not sure you can find the word in the dictionary it shows up in a book called Built to Last. The author, Jim Collins, asserts that organizations that thrive over a long period of time have goals that are so big and so audacious, that somehow these goals propel the company to move forward. Moses, just before he died, left a BHAG for Israel The LORD your God Himself will cross over ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you will take possession of their land. Joshua also will cross over ahead of you, as the LORD said. Deuteronomy 31:3. Moses had a goal for his people that was bigger than himself. Same for Paul. He prays a BHAG for the church at Philippi (shortly before his death), And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge& depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ--to the glory and praise of God. (Philippians 1:9-11) What is your BHAG for 2019? Is there a big hairy audacious goal that can only be achieved with God s help? Why don t we spend some time in the next few days to think about a BHAG for our life? Our family? Our church? If you come up with a BHAG for our church, would you share it with me? I d love to hear it and to pray with you toward the realization of that goal in our congregation. Make it a goal big enough to stir up your life or our church. As God gives us a gift of a new year, I believe it s appropriate that we ask Him to stir our hearts and reach for the big hairy audacious goals he has for us. Happy New Year Steve Armfield Senior Pastor Our Second Family - Wedding Bliss Were you or yours married at Second Church? Contact Vicki Tingley as we would love to have a copy of the bridal photo.
