Rev. Karen Metcalf Eickhoff, kmetcalf@tbcraleigh.com What is Lent? I have heard some of our children asking What is Lent? And what does Lent have to do with Easter? Lent is a season of spiritual renewal. The Season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday which is 40 days before Easter. Lent gives each of us the opportunity to: Renew our commitment to God, Reflect on our lives and let them be directed by God, and Respond to God s call for love and mercy toward all God s children. Most of all Lent helps us prepare for the Resurrection of Jesus on Easter! Passportkids For children in grades 3-5 July 3-6 Cost: $225 Montreat Retreat Center, Montreat, NC Registration Due ASAP A 4-day, 3-night camp complete with Bible studies, games, variety show and worship events. You will want to sign up! Bible Skills Drills & Thrills Church Drill This Sunday our Bible Drill students participated in a Church Drill. Congratulations to Lyla Bagwell, Banks Blizzard, Zachary Forrest, Payton Macsuga, Sarah Price, Becket Sumner, Destin Tan, and Emily Thomas for working hard all year to learn Bible verses, Books of the Bible and Key passages. This is an amazing feat of learning and growing in Bible knowledge. Way to go! Bible Drill and Bible Buddies will meet at 5:00pm-6:00pm next Sunday evening due to the choir s concert downtown which will begin at 7:00pm. Begin today making Lent meaningful. Put up a cross in your home and let it remind you of Jesus loving sacrifice. Reflect on how you spend each day. Try to simplify your life during Lent spend more time with family and friends, less time shopping or working. Read the Bible more. Set aside time to read alone or with others. Reflect on how unwanted sounds distract you. Think of ways to increase the quiet in your home (by turning off the TV, for example). Examine your life goals, do they reflect your faith? Invite a friend to attend church services with you. Plant seeds or bulbs or flowering plants. Call or write someone you ve lost contact with. Sing hymns with family or friends. Learn more about local groups working for peace. Stress patience and compassion in personal conflicts. Share your faith. Be intentional. Focus on God, Jesus sacrifice, and sharing your faith with others. Make your Lenten season special this year.
