BGES is Proud to Present a BGES Civil War Field University Program: Steve Wise s Ohio: Cradle of Victory May 24-28, 2017 With the election of two Kentucky natives to presidencies of the United States and the Confederate States the expansion of the United States to the west s well established and while Virginia had become the Home of Presidents (with 6 of the first 15 being from the Old Dominion) Ohio (formerly claimed as part of Virginia) s now clearly the home of the men who would save and lead the Union to victory in the Civil War. Afterrds Grant, Garfield, McKinley, Harrison and Hayes would all rise to the presidency after the r and politicians such as Stanton, Sherman and Wade would play key roles in the renel of the Union. When you add in army commanders who were Buckeyes, Ohio s the undisputed Cradle of Victory. Join us on a sweeping tour of this quintessential American state not coincidentally shaped like a shield the Shield of the Union! We will take you from the shores of Lake Erie to the banks of the Ohio River. Seldom has a tour been organized that reveals the role of Ohio and its impact on the nation s greatest conflict.
