My Brothers and Sisters, Next Sunday, November 17 th, St. Theresa Catholic School will host a Fall Open House from 10:00AM until 1:00PM. The Open House is the first such opportunity this year for parishioners, friends and the public to tour our parish school and learn what St. Theresa Catholic School has to offer students from Pre-School through Grade 8. We are all aware that there is an increasing variety of educational options for children in our neighborhoods public schools, private schools, religious schools and public charter schools are in no short supply. Many of these schools offer fine academic programs and suit students and families who have particular needs. Our parish school, though, is unique in that it is a Catholic School a Catholic School that is a ministry of St. Theresa Parish which is to say that its students are held in the embrace of the faith community of St. Theresa. What exactly does this mean? St. Theresa Catholic School (STCS) was opened in 1957 by the founding families of our parish who wanted to create an environment for their children in which they would not only receive a superior academic formation, but also and more importantly be formed in the values of Catholic Christianity. The mission statement of STCS reflects this philosophy: St. Theresa Catholic School, a ministry of St. Theresa Parish, forms students spiritually, academically and socially to assume responsible and productive roles in society while living out the values of the Gospel. Not only is the word God able to be spoken in our classrooms and prayer a part of the daily life of our school (as we know, in public and public/charter schools, this is illegal) but Christian teachings, morals and values are woven throughout the curriculum. Whether the students are being taught mathematics, vocabulary, art or volleyball whether they are doing a science project, preparing for a musical production or working on an ipad, God is present in what is being taught and experienced by our young people. While a Catholic School cannot substitute for faith, values and discipline of a student s home, our goal is to reinforce and augment those values with the best of the Catholic Church s 2000-year tradition of formation and scholarship. Daily prayer, weekly School Mass and opportunities to receive the sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation during the school day only underscore the core mission and philosophy of who St. Theresa Catholic School. For 56 years this melding of faith, knowledge and values at STCS has served our students and their families well as our graduates move on to the high schools of their choice and into adulthood. But what about the tuition? Yes, there is a cost to Catholic School Education but with a number of options for financial aid ranging from Arizona Tuition Tax Credit grants to various scholarship opportunities, our goal is to make the faith, knowledge and values of St. Theresa Catholic School affordable to families who want the best spiritual, academic and social formation for their children. Please spread the word of our Fall Open House next Sunday, November 17 th, from 10:00AM until 1:00PM. Tell your friends, neighbors and co-workers who have children going into pre-school through Grade 8 to stop by and check us out next weekend. They won t regret it! Parishioners who just want to see the school (whether or not they have elementary age children) can come too all are welcome! They can also learn about our brand new, state-of-the art Early Childhood Center (Preschool, Pre-K and Kindergarten) building that s scheduled to be completed this coming July in time for the new school year. The children are welcome, too members of the STCS Student Council will be on hand to conduct tours and answer questions, as will faculty and administration members who can discuss enrollment and financial aid details! Blessings and joy in Christ, Rev. Charles G. Kieffer, V.F. Pastor

PARISH NEWS Spiritual Adoption Update: Your spiritually adopted baby is in his/her second month in the womb. The developing baby is now called a fetus, which is Latin for little one. He or she is making rapid progress developing all external and internal organs. During the second month, baby teeth form and fingers and toes are developing. Ears, nose, lips and tongue can now be clearly seen. Brain waves can be recorded. The skeleton changes from cartilage to bone. Forty muscle sets begin their first exercises. This little one can now suck his or her thumb. By eight weeks all body systems are present. Your baby s mother most likely knows she is pregnant by now, or she will soon be finding out. Pray for her. See the bulletin boards in the Ramada or church vestibules for a visual depiction of what your baby looks like. BIG Stuff! Are you wondering what's it all about? Are you finding yourself in "transition" - job, relationship, age, loss? Counseling can help. Please call Duncan Macaulay for more information @ 602-826-1982 or the Parish Office @ 602-840-0850. Bible Class News Our St. Theresa Bible Class featuring the live lectures of Kevin Saunders is up and running on Thursday evenings from 7-8:30PM in Fr. Feeney Hall. It is because so many parishioners, people just like you, are making Thursday night "Bible Night" at St. Theresa. Currently, Kevin Saunders is working his way through the Book of Genesis in his unique and insightful chapter by chapter and verse by verse format. He has worked the class up to the time of Abraham and has almost two thirds of the Book of Genesis left before our Christmas Break.
