Today at 4:00 pm The Delaware Women s Chorale Love Songs Through the Ages Potluck to follow Welcome the month of May with a special concert by the Delaware Women s Chorale, under the direction of Joanne Ward. Joanne is a dear friend of our church who plays in our Celebration Ringers hand bell choir and donates her talents as part of our summer special music. She received a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Montclair University and a Master of Music in voice from West Chester University. She has been a soloist and lead performer with area churches, choral ensembles and theatrical companies. Mrs. Ward formerly served as the director of choral activities for the Pennsville School District in Pennsville, New Jersey where she maintained five choral ensembles. She was the founder and director of the Wilmington Youth Chorale and the Delaware Children s Chorus at the Music School of Delaware, retiring from that position in 2004. She currently serves as the Conductor and Music Director of the Delaware Women s Chorus as well as Director of Middle School Choral Music at The Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square, PA, while maintaining a large private voice studio in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. The Delaware Women s Chorus is a diverse group of women coming together for two hours once a week for the sole purpose of improving their own vocal technique and creating something beautiful. The repertoire, often honoring women composers, is as diverse as the singers who comprise the ensemble and is chosen not only for its appeal to the singers and their audience, but for its pedagogical value as well. The group gathers at The Music School of Delaware and performs four to five concerts a year at both the Music School and in the tri-state area. The concert at 4:00 pm at our Meeting House will be followed by a pot-luck supper in the Fellowship Hall. And again, bring a friend along!

Spring Brunch Sunday, May 20, 2012 Mission and Outreach Committee Our guest speaker Jean Chrestensen (Church Relations Coordinator) will be presenting Samaritan s Purse during our celebration of community and fellowship at our Spring Brunch on Sunday, May, 20, 2012, immediately following the 11:00 A.M. worship service. The mission of Samaritan s Purse is to provide international relief serving the church worldwide by ministering to hurting people around the world who face difficult and often life threatening challenges. They provide emergency food and shelter, clean drinking water, medical care, livestock, vocation training, missionary doctors, bicycles, blankets, mosquito netting, Bibles and curriculum, shoes and clothing, emergency shelter, life-saving medical supplies, fruit trees, honeybees, fishing boats, and baby chicks. Other assistance that they provide includes, but is not limited, feeding hungry babies, teaching children to read and write, purchasing airline tickets to save children s lives, giving orphans loving care, transforming the life of disabled children, rescuing children from exploitation, building schools for impoverished children, building churches, building homes, building missionary hospitals, stocking fish ponds, and helping families grow bountiful crops. Since 1993, more than 94 million boys and girls have received hope and joy in over 130 countries. Local churches and ministry partners here and overseas are enabled to witness and share God s love. Gift-filled shoe boxes are delivered by Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan s Purse, to children in the far corners of the world spreading the Gospel message as the Savior s birth is celebrated. You should be receiving a phone call from a deacon or an elder soon. Please let them know if you will be attending and what dish you will be bringing to share. If you do not hear from your deacon or elder, please call or E-mail the church office and let them know you would like to attend. There is also a sign-up sheet in the Church Fellowship Hall. Please indicate what you would like to bring a main dish, side dish, salad, or dessert and how many will be in attendance. Come and share a meal with your church family during this delightful season of renewal. Please visit www.samaritanspurse.org/ to learn more about Samaritan s Purse and how you might help. And, don t forget to invite a friend! Your Father in Heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost Matthew 18:14 NIV.

Mother's Day Gardens for Friendship House With the return of bloom and spring showers, you may be planning your spring garden. The women of the Friendship House transitional housing program are doing the same: planting flowers for spring and summer beauty. You can support these gardens--and the transitional housing program--by making a donation to the Mother's Day Garden project. It's simple: just pick up a donor card from the Friendship House poster and follow the directions. Your gift can be a lovely way to honor your own mother or to celebrate the presence of another special woman in your life. The woman you honor will receive a floral card announcing your gift (but not its amount), and the garden you support will add beauty and hope to Friendship House housing from Mother's Day through to the fall. Look around and think of those who make your life happier, funnier, or more secure; this a wonderful, easy, and very personal way to say "Thank you." White Gifts Every season continues to bring people and their families hunger. Our White Gifts continue to help to put food on the tables of the needy. All of our food contributions are received by the St. Peter s food closet in New Castle. There are boxes in the Meeting House and Christian Education Building which are waiting to receive your contributions. Please purchase protein items like: Peanut butter Tuna fish Beef stew Canned meats of all kinds Envelopes for monetary donations are also available in the pews. Contact Susan Townsend at home 302-328-553 or cell 302-562-3647 for further information.

Love BEARS All Things The Deacons operate a bear ministry to brighten the days of those who are healing in body or spirit. The purpose of this ministry is to offer love and support to someone in need through the gift of a teddy bear that has worshipped with us at New Castle Presbyterian Church. There are two special ways in which you can participate: 1. GIVING A BEAR: Anyone worshipping with us is welcome to take a bear to someone in need of comfort or support in a difficult time. Please record the name of the recipient in the log book in the basket. 2. DONATING A BEAR: There is a box in the entryway leading to Fellowship Hall. As these will be special gifts, we are accepting only new bears. Please contact Lyn Briggs (322-6610) or Linda Twyford (328-6824) or the church office (302-328-3279; ncpc1651@verizon.net) if you have any questions or would like more information. Fulfill Your Promises! When children are baptized, we all promise to guide and nurture them in Christ. Fulfill this promise by becoming a Someplace Else teaching assistant. You will serve 6 times a year after the Scripture Conversation in worship, helping children to know Christ and learn the stories of our faith. Sign up today or speak to Pastor Nancy!
