PRAISELINE 23 DEC 2018 Reflec.on On Coming Back By Foong Kailin The past 4 years of my life have been spent shudling in between two countries Singapore and Australia. Every Jme I lel either place, I would be leaving with a mixed pot of feelings that ranged from excitement and anjcipajon to sadness and dread. In both places, I had different roujnes, lifestyles, habits that required periods of adjustment whenever I shiled from one to the other. In both places, there were things, which I found slightly hard to let go when it was Jme for me to leave once again. Therefore, 2018 is very special to me. For once, I was stajonary in one place (discounjng the Jmes I went on holidays). It might not seem like a big deal to some people, considering that I am technically returning to where I spent the former 20 years of my life. However, returning home this year marked the beginning of a completely new phase in my life. For starters, I officially joined the workforce. In addijon, I started living as a ChrisJan officially with my mostly non ChrisJan family. This posed some challenges at the start, such as explaining addijonal non family commitments on our usual family day, and not parjcipajng in other religious pracjces of my family. And of course, I started living as a ChrisJan in Singapore, which involved finding a new community of fellow followers of Christ. Having no home church, I hopped around different churches inijally, and finally came to LPPC along with a few others. While it was slightly daunjng at the start to adend a new church, the warmth of LPPC, from the endearing welcome to all the visitors each week during service, to the muljgenerajonal family-like se]ng in the canteen during lunch, made it much less injmidajng. The gospel centred sermons, weekly bible studies and fellowship Jme with members of LPPC allowed me to conjnue to grow in Christ, and constantly reminded me to set my eyes on the treasures above, while I gradually adapted to the working life in Singapore. The things we learnt during the sermon series and bible studies this year helped to ground me, and kept me from being distracted by many worldly things that I was drawn to, especially in work. One of the most encouraging learning points I ve gained this year was the reminder that God loved us first, and because of this love, he sent Jesus to die on the cross, so that we may be saved and have eternal life. And it is because of this love, we are set free to be able to lovingly serve one another. This knowledge of God s love has been a great strength booster in many Jmes when work and other things in life became tough. And as the year draws to an end, I pray that I would be able to bring forward these things that I have learned, and pray that God will conjnue to transform and renew me, to be able to live out his word more. I pray that LPPC will conjnue to be a gospel centred church, and its members would conjnue to support one another and build one another up as one body of Christ. I thank God for his provision, and for his sovereignty, without which, I would never have come to know Christ, and LPPC. Thank God for all the friends I ve met in LPPC, and may we conjnue to grow in the word together! 4
