CHRIST THE KING SUNDAY NOVEMBER 25, 2018 TODAY'S WORSHIP Divine Service III LSB pages 184-202 L = Liturgist * = Stand C = Congregation PRELUDE WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS *OPENING HYMN Praise to God, Immortal Praise TLH 572 1. Praise to God, immortal praise, For the love that crowns our days; Bounteous Source of ev ry joy, Let Thy praise our tongues employ. All to Thee, our God, we owe, Source whence all our blessings flow. 2. Peace, prosperity, and health, Private bliss, and public wealth, Knowledge with its glad ning streams, True religion s holier beams, Lord, for these our souls shall raise Grateful vows and solemn praise. 3. As Thy prospering hand hath blest, May we give Thee of our best, And by deeds of kindly love For Thy mercies grateful prove, Singing thus through all our days Praise to God, immortal praise. *INVOCATION AND CALL WORSHIP L: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. L: Power and riches, wisdom and might, and honor and glory, and blessing: C: Be unto our God forever and ever. L: Keep us in Your holiness, C: That all the day we may meditate upon Your righteousness. L: Lord, God Almighty: C: Each day we sin against You by not setting our minds on what is true, noble, and right; by being ungrateful in our thoughts and actions, and omitting to put the best construction on what we hear and know. For this we humbly ask Your forgiveness, through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Give us thankful hearts that love and trust You, that we may live in Your presence forever. Amen. *THE ABSOLUTION *THE GLORIA PATRI (Taken from LSB, page 186) C: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. *THE KYRIE C: Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us. *THE COLLECT OF THE DAY L: The Lord be with you. C: And with thy spirit. L: Let us pray.

THE OLD TESTAMENT READING for the Christ the King Sunday is from Daniel 7:13-14, page 745: 13 "I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. 14 And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed. L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. THE SECOND READING is from Revelation 1:4b-8, page 1028: 4 Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood 6 and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 7 Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. 8 "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." L: This is the Word of the Lord. *ALLELUIA AND VERSE C: Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia. *THE HOLY GOSPEL - The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the eighteenth chapter, verses 33-37, pages 904-905: C: Glory be to Thee, O Lord. 33 So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" 34 Jesus answered, "Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?" 35 Pilate answered, "Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?" 36 Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world." 37 Then Pilate said to him, "So you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice." L: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise be to Thee, O Christ. *THE CONFESSION OF FAITH I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is my Lord, who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death, that I may be His own, and live under Him in His kingdom, and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence and blessedness, even as He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns to all eternity. This is most certainly true. Amen. CHILDREN S SONG (Sung as the children come forward) (8:00 & 10:30) Tell God s story, tell God s story. Pray to Him. Pray to Him. All of us together, all of us together, Praising God, praising God. (Repeat) CHILDREN'S MESSAGE (8:00 & 10:30) Marilyn Wiesehan SERMON HYMN O Jesus, King Most Wonderful LSB 554 1. The boar s head is presented to King Wenceslas, symbolizing the defeat of evil. The Christmas story is then presented, complete with shepherds and wisemen following the star to the holy family, introducing the Savior s birth. Peek into the storyline...the entire children choir is made up of angels. The majority of the musical takes place in heaven where the angels are attending the God Squad Academy. They are warming up their voices and sharpening their skills as they wait to be called to go to earth and make the grand announcement. The cadets find themselves as messengers as they sing about Jesus our Savior. Everyone learns that our God is a miracle-making God and that because of Jesus All Is Well indeed!
