Each teacher will display highlights of their class, disseminate important information and be available to discuss their academic program. First Grade Program begins at 7:00 PM in the classroom. Details to follow! CALLING ALL GIRLS: F lyers for our girls after school programs, JAG and Gymnastics, were distributed yesterday. Please make sure to sign up before classes begin next week!

Welcome to our weekly Parsha riddle! The questions are based on Rabbi Moshe Atik's Torah Teasers. The questions are unique in that although they are challenging, an answer can almost always be found by simply reading through the Parsha. Working with your children to figure out the answer can be a fun experience, and an opportunity to bond. Answers will be published the following week along with where in the Parsha they could be found. כּ י ת צ א Which commandment in this week s פּ ר ש ה involves forgetting? (Can you find two commandments?) 2B NEWS Our second grade boys have begun making shtenders for their Chumashim. They can't wait to use them!

Page 5 SUMMER REVIEW PROGRAM A ll of those hard working children who have completed their Summer Review Packet should bring their booklets in to their Torah Studies teacher by Monday. SCRIP W elcome Back! We hope that everyone enjoyed their summer. Rosh Hashana is just around the corner. today! The Dikduk Review tests will be administered next week to all of the students in grades 2-5. Grades on the tests are for classroom evaluation and to determine eligibility for Summer Review Program Awards. Don t forget to order your gift cards We currently carry gift cards to Amazon, Kosher Central, Kosher Kingdom, Publix, Starbucks, Sara's Tent, South Florida Kosher Market, Walmart, Winn Dixie, and Whole Foods. All current purchases will be applied to your 2014-2015 SCRIP obligation. You can order gift cards online at ww.ytcteam.org/scrip. The SCRIP Program was initiated to help raise money for the Yeshiva without costing you a cent.. We have teamed up with the stores mentioned above and they have agreed to donate a percentage of revenue from every purchase back to our Yeshiva. HOT LUNCH PROGRAM ur Hot O Lunch Program began this week. Please remember to post your menus in a prominent place at home, and mark the days you ordered lunch for your children. Please note: It is not possible to rely on the school to provide lunch for your child(ren) on the days that you did not order from the Hot Lunch Program but forgot to send lunch from home. We cannot sell lunches on the spot, as lunch orders are placed with the caterer at least one week in advance - and we do not order extra meals. If you have not already placed an order for this cycle, you will have that opportunity for the next lunch cycle, which begins on December 3. Please remember that Mondays and Wednesdays are meat days, so children who bring their own lunch may bring meat lunches only on those days. Remember to send pareve snacks on those days as well. Remember: Spending Cards Result In Profit!

Page 6 PLEASE PACK PLASTICWARE W hen you pack lunch meals or snacks which require the use of a fork or spoon, please include the necessary utensils (preferably disposable) in your child s lunch box. Erev Shabbos Parashas Ki Seitzei 5774 Dear Parents, The excitement of watching our Talmidim and Talmidos returning to school, to their friends and to learning is to experience great joy and hope. The potential of what each individual and the totality of our 475 elementary and early childhood students can accomplish this year is limitless. No matter what stresses and difficulties you endure to enable your children to receive a quality Torah and secular education, and these days all parents of Yeshiva students are heroes, it is all worth it when you realize your children are being plugged into eternity and into a world of higher values and greater humanity. This summer, we experienced anew, the fragility of life, the wanton hatred that surrounds and targets the world-wide and local Jewish community, and the general debasing of the value of human life. Our children are growing up in a world quite unlike any of us experienced. Sadly, the more technology connects individuals and creates a virtual global community, the greater the distance grows and the bonds fray between people, countries and cultures. But for us, the priceless legacy of Torah Judaism is the greatest gift we give to our children. While we experience the inevitable bumps in the road as our children acclimate to new teachers, classmates and expectations, we the parents need to keep our eye on the big picture. The timeless values of honesty, compassion and responsibility coupled with respect and love for being a Torah Jew is ultimately what our day to day work is all about. An athlete in training considers a scraped knee and sore shoulder part of a day s work, part of the process of reaching for greater performance and greater accomplishment. We need to help our children see a less than perfect test score, or even a redirection from a teacher as part of the learning process. The parents and teachers job is to focus on developing our children s resilience and ongoing motivation to do what may sometimes be hard or less than fun. By helping a child appreciate small gains and incremental successes, we will be doing them a great favor. contined

Page 2 Our children stand to gain the most from a healthy school-home relationship. The key to any relationship is communication. We invite you all to join with us this coming Tuesday evening for our Back-to-School Expo, where we will share with the parents what we do in each individual class and the school as a whole. Come meet your child(ren) s teachers, hear and see their hopes, dreams and plans for your children this coming year, and come get a sense of what the Toras Emes experience is all about. May this and every Shabbos be filled with the sounds of eager children excitedly and happily relating what they learned and experienced in the past week. Have a wonderful Shabbos, Rabbi Kalman Baumann
