STARRY NIGHT CHILDREN S CHRISTMAS LITURGY PAGEANT CAST Baby Jesus Mary Joseph Innkeeper Head Angel Shepherd s Angel Star of Bethlehem Wise Men and Travelers Shepherds Angels Stars Arden Monaghan Daria Yohe Roman Stein Nick Ebner Fallon George Matti Crossan Jason Morrissy 3 rd & 4 th Grades 1 st & 2 nd Grade Kindergarten 2s & 3s Class & PreK O Come All Ye Faithful Oh, come all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant! Oh, come ye, oh, come ye to Bethlehem; Come and behold him Born the king of angels: Refrain: Narrator: Oh, come, let us adore him, Oh, come, let us adore him, Oh, come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord! Victoria Ebner Tonight is Christmas Eve in Oreland. It is a cold and starry night. We are here, together, to see a miracle. Let s travel now back over 2,000 years. We are in a small town called Bethlehem. Though we are in the Middle East, where the days are warm, the nights are still cold. It is night now, and cold, and time to go inside and sleep in a cozy house. Many people are on the road tonight, going back to their home towns to be counted. The inns are all full. 5

Away in the Manger Away in a manger, no crib for his bed, The little Lord Jesus lay down his sweet head; The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay, The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay. Narrator: Victoria Ebner Down the dusty road comes a couple, Mary and Joseph. They move slowly, because Mary is expecting a baby. As they reach the inn at Bethlehem, the innkeeper turns them away. There are no rooms left. It is late, and they are so cold and tired. Finally the innkeepers agree to let them stay in a stable outside, where the animals sleep. It is here Mary and Joseph stop to rest. It is here that the baby, Jesus, is born. Breath of Heaven Rose Seyfried, voice (Mary and Joseph come up the aisle, and Angel brings up Christ Child.) Narrator: Will Cross There are others outside tonight. Shepherds on a nearby hillside are tending their sheep. They work in the open air, under a canopy of shining stars. Suddenly, they have a visitor. An angel appears to the shepherds to tell them the great news that Jesus has been born. The angel points the way to the manger, to the cradle of the Christ child. They bow down before the newborn, and adore him. Jesus, their Good Shepherd. (Angel leads Shepherds up the aisle.) 6

The First Noel The first Noel the angel did say was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay In fields where they lay keeping their sheep on a cold winters night that was so deep. Refrain: Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born is the king of Israel. Narrator: Will Cross Meanwhile, a special star is also pointing the way to the holy baby. Wise Men journey from different far off lands in the East, following the star all the way to Bethlehem. They bring the child Jesus gifts of gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. They, too, come to worship little Jesus. Jesus, their Lord of Lords, their King of Kings. We Three Kings We three kings of Orient are; bearing gifts we traverse afar, field and fountain, moor and mountain, following yonder star. Refrain: Oh, star of wonder, star of night, star of royal beauty bright; westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to they perfect light! (Star leads Wise Men and Travelers up the aisle.) 7

Narrator: Ray Ebner As people gather around the Holy Family, the whole host of angels rejoices. The angels, too, come to see Him, and so Heaven has come down to earth on this amazing night. They hover around the Baby, and glorify Him. Jesus, Child of Man. Jesus, Child of God. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing Hark! The herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn king; Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled. Joyful, all you nations rise; joint the triumph of the skies; With angelic hosts proclaim, Christ is born in Bethlehem! Refrain: Hark! The herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn king! (Angels come up the aisle.) Narrator: Ray Ebner It is a scene of joy. It is a scene of wonder. It is a scene of faith, and hope, and love. The special star and other beautiful twinkling stars shine in the evening sky, tiny lights in the darkness. It is as if the stars themselves are gathering to praise Jesus. Jesus, the Light of the World. 8

O Little Town of Bethlehem O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie! Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by; Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light. The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight. (Stars come up the aisle.) Narrator: Tori Tulino Tonight, we are thousands of miles, and thousands of years, from Bethlehem. But here s the miracle: we still see him, just like the shepherds and kings, the angels and stars. We still cluster around Mary, and Joseph, and the blessed Baby. Jesus is born, again, tonight. Joy to the World Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her king; let ev'ry heart prepare him room and heav'n and nature sing, and heav'n and nature sing, and heav'n, and heav'n and nature sing. 9

Narrator: Tori Tulino God sent his Son to earth as a little child. God loves all children in a very special way. So now we invite all the children in this church to come to the stable. Come, visit our Savior right now. Come, give Him the gift of your love, shining like a million twinkling stars. (During the music, all the children take stars up the center aisle and place them in front of the manger. They return to their seats.) Musical Interlude The Christmas Message "Birthday Blessings" Elise Seyfried The Prayers Fallon George: In Jesus, we behold God s love for all people. So let us pray for the church, the world, and all those in need. Wonderful Counselor, you sent us the hopes and dreams of all the years as an infant born in a manger, a savior born of Mary. We give you thanks and praise for this amazing gift of love. Help us to remember the true meaning of Christmas: your love come to earth in Jesus. May we in words and song tell the story of the gift of salvation we have been given this night. God of grace All: Tonight we join the angels in singing praises to you. Shane Morrissy: Mighty God, you bring down the powerful and lift up the lowly. We pray tonight for the poor and powerless of this world. They, like the shepherds, are welcome at the manger. May they come to know your great love. Guide the leaders of all nations, so that everyone may enjoy the wealth of our world. God of grace All: With the shepherds we run to see the great gift you have given us. 10

Nick Ebner: Prince of Peace, send your holy gift of peace upon a world filled with so much violence, hate and war, so that all people might be safe and cared for. Help us all to work for peace, harmony and joy in the lives of everyone. God of grace All: With the donkey, the cows, the doves and all the animals in the stable we pray for peace and harmony for our world. Andrew Stein: Everlasting Father, we give thanks for visitors and travelers who join us in worship. May they find here a warm welcome as we all welcome our savior, the newborn king. May all of us here tonight return to our homes in safety, filled with the wonder of God. God of grace All: With Mary and Joseph we welcome our newborn king. Matti Crossan: O Lord our God, with Mary and Joseph, angels and shepherds, and the animals in the stable, we gather around your Son, born for us. Bless us with your holy presence and inspire us to help those who have no place to live. Be with us that we might share Christ's love with all the world, for he is our light and salvation. Glory in heaven and peace on earth, now and forever. Amen. 11

The Sharing of God s Peace Matti Crossan Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given. And his name is the wonderful counselor, the almighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace who brings us peace. The peace of the Lord be with you always. All: And also with you. The congregation may greet one another with the peace of God.
