Page 2 I AM A CHURCH MEMBER Have you gained as much from this little book as I have? I went into it thinking that I knew what it was going to say... and honestly I had all the themes pretty well figured out. But I wasn't prepared for how much it would speak to me personally. This book lays it all out there, but it doesn't leave you feeling condemned. It will; however, convict you! My Sunday School class just read chapter four. It's about the importance of praying for our leaders. Maybe you aren't there yet. If that's the case, read chapters 1-3 first, because they are no less important! But I hope that when you get there, you will really give chapter four your attention. If you have already read it, I challenge you to go back and read through it again. It won't take you long. Why would I stress this chapter? Do I think it's more important than the chapters that come before, or the chapters that come after? NO! Each chapter stresses topics that are essential to the health of a well balanced and effective church. And if you do what it takes to be a member of such a church, you will undoubtedly have a stronger, healthier, personal relationship with the Lord. But here's the thing - none of this means anything, or even works at all, if we aren't in prayer! Our church leaders are not only working hard to be spiritual leaders for their homes, and for our neighbors, and for the body at CHCC, but they are working hard to serve YOU personally. They put themselves, and therefore their families, on the frontlines of the enemy's attacks! God's Word tells us that our prayers are indeed powerful! So here is my challenge, when you finish reading chapter four, spend some time in prayer. Ask the Lord how you can more effectively pray for our ministers and elders. Then, I challenge you to commit to serving on one of our Shield teams. Stay with me! It's easy! All you have to do is commit to pray for one or more of our leaders on a daily basis during your usual quiet time. That's it! If you don't think that can have a big impact, just corner one of those people and ask them if they can tell a difference when people are praying for them. Then contact me and let me know which team you would like to serve on. There are Shield teams for Lenny, April, the Worship Band, Jake, the Elders, and the Senior Minister. Brandi Beins Prayer Team Leader BUILDING USAGE If you would like to use a room in the church for an event, a study, meeting or a party, please contact Christy Ausley at christy@chccweb.org to check availability. Use of all rooms must be booked through the church office. Our Prayer Team would like to encourage you to focus weekly on a specific Prayer emphasis or need. You are encouraged to use this resource as you go to the foot of the cross in your daily prayer time. January ~ PRAYER EMPHASIS: 01/18: Pray the Lord will provide a new pastor to lead us this year. 01/25: Pray the Lord will guide CHCC to be His hands and feet to our neighbors this year. February ~ PRAYER EMPHASIS: 02/01: Pray for wisdom and discernment for our pastoral search committee. 02/08: Ask the Lord how you can show His love to those around you. 02/15: Pray that our 3rd 5th graders will come to understand and love Jesus more at SuperStart. 02/22: Pray that you will recognize an opportunity to share Jesus with somebody this week.

Page 3 What s currently happening in CHCC s Student Ministry? Wednesdays @ 6:30-7:30 The Gathering is back and I am so excited for 2015. I believe that it is truly going to be a year of growth and change for the CHCC youth group Our first series of the year is called Ordinary. Inspired by Tony Merida s book of the same title, it is a call to live extraordinary lives through ordinary, daily means. We will be challenged with the truth that Gospel change involves Ordinary people, living Ordinary Lives, while focusing on Jesus Tim Keller. YOUTH MINISTER JAKE SCHULTE U p c o m i n g E v e n t s! What s next for our ministry. This summer we will be taking a trip to Glorietta, New Mexico (July 7-12) to attend a camp called FUGE. It will be a fun packed week filled with worship, Bible study and plenty of the usual camp craziness! This trip is for High Schoolers only, please sign up at the Youth Booth and turn in your $50 Non-Refundable deposit by January 25th! CONNECTIONS SIGNS Sometimes we see them and follow the instructions on them. Sometimes we see them and ignore them. Sometimes I think we just look past them and thereby miss the message of the sign. There are those signs that have messages that we don t particularly like or agree with, speed limit signs for instance. There are signs that tell us where to park, where we can walk or ride a bike. There are signs that warn us of danger and signs that tell us where to go to be safe. There are so many signs with information that is usually helpful to us in some way. How often though, do we ignore the signs around us? How often do we go ahead and do our own thing because we don t want to be inconvenienced? Beyond physical signs, we also have spiritual signs that we tend to miss or ignore at times. Missing or ignoring physical signs can sometimes have serious consequences. Missing spiritual signs can not only have serious consequences, but it can also cause us to miss great opportunities in God s plan for us. I am so thankful for the Holy Spirit and His role in our lives as believers and followers of Christ. We have a Helper! We do not walk this road alone but we have been promised there is One who abides with us and in us! I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. John 14:16-17 Pay attention and be obedient to the signs around you..opportunities abound! CONNECTION MINISTER LENNY HISEY
