The light shines in the darkness And the Darkness did not overcome it John 1 : 5 Nassau Presbyterian Church December 30, 2018 10:00 am

Gathering God calls us together to offer praise, acknowledge sin, and celebrate our adoption as forgiven children. Prelude La Nativité Jean Langlais The Manger - The Angels - The Shepherds - The Holy Family Call to Worship Genesis 1 At the sign you may stand. Bold text is read or sung in unison. In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, Let there be light; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. Come, people of God, let us worship God, the Maker of Heaven and Earth! Opening Hymn Hark! The Herald Angels Sing Hymn 119 Hymn indicates the red pew hymnal Glory to God. Prayer of Confession Merciful God, we confess we have sinned against you by thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.

Assurance of Forgiveness Friends in Christ, hear and believe the good news of the Gospel. In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God. Response of Praise He Came Down Hymn 137 He came down that we may have love, He came down that we may have love, He came down that we may have love; hallelujah forevermore! additional verses that we may have light that we may have peace that we may have joy Words of Welcome Proclaiming the Word We encounter the Word in speech and song as we interpret and expound scripture. Time with Children Children age two to grade one may go to a Bible story and craft time in Room 07 (Lower Level). Sermon The Lord of Time Mark Edwards Thanksgiving We respond by presenting our offerings, setting the table, lifting prayers, and praising the triune God. Hymn Born in the Night, Mary s Child Hymn 158 Affirmation of Faith Galatians 4 : 4 7 When the fullness of time had come, God sent the Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. And because we are children, God has sent the Spirit of the Son into our hearts, crying, Abba! Father! So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God. Amen. Offertory O Holy Night Adolphe Adam O holy night, the stars are brightly shining, it is the night of the dear Savior s birth; Long lay the world in sin and error pining, till he appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices, for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn. Fall on your knees! Oh hear the angel voices! Oh night divine! Oh night when Christ was born. Oh night divine! Oh night divine! Led by the light of faith serenely beaming, with glowing hearts by his cradle we stand; So, led by light of a star sweetly gleaming, here came the wise men from the Orient land. The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger, in all our trials born to be our friend; He knows our need, to our weakness no stranger; behold your King! Before him bend the knee. Behold your King, your King! Before him bow. Truly he taught us to love one another; his law is love, and his gospel is peace. Chains shall he break for the slave is our brother, and in his name all oppression shall cease. Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we;

let all within us praise his holy name. Christ is the Lord, then ever, ever praise we; his power and glory evermore proclaim; His power and glory evermore proclaim. Doxology Angels, from the Realms of Glory Hymn 143 verse 4 All creation, join in praising God the Father, Spirit, Son, Evermore your voices raising to th eternal Three in One; Come and worship, come and worship, Worship Christ the newborn King! Prayers of the People and the Lord s Prayer The Lord s Prayer is recited in the language closest to your heart. The common English text may be found in the hymnal on pg 11, the traditional, pg 35; Spanish, pg 40; and Korean, pg 45.
