Prelude ringing of the Bells Manger Medley Susan Easttom, piano Jennifer Cook hymn 249 There's a Song in the Air CHRISTMAS SONG There's a song in the air! There's a star in the sky! There's a mother's deep prayer and a baby's low cry! And the star rains its fire while the beautiful sing, for the manger of Bethlehem cradles a King! There's a tumult of joy o'er the wonderful birth, for the virgin's sweet boy is the Lord of the earth. Ay! the star rains its fire while the beautiful sing, for the manger of Bethlehem cradles a King! In the light of that star lie the ages impearled; and that song from afar has swept over the world. Every hearth is aflame, and the beautiful sing in the homes of the nations that Jesus is King! We rejoice in the light, and we echo the song that comes down through the night from the heavenly throng. Ay! we shout to the lovely evangel they bring, and we greet in his cradle our Savior and King! Call to WorshiP We have heard the good news. A baby is born in Bethlehem. He is the Christ, the Messiah. He has come to set His people free. He is Immanuel, God with us. He has come to bring a new dream. Because God has come to be with us, we can share God s love and bring hope to the world. affirmation of faith As a family of faith, let us affirm our faith together. Rev. Phil Greenwald I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; The third day He rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic* church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. (* universal) gloria Patri MEINEKE Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. Choral Call to Prayer Love came down at Christmas Love all lovely, Love divine; Love was born at Christmas; star and angels gave the sign. Worship we the God-head, Love incarnate, Love divine; worship we our Jesus, but wherewith for sacred sign? Pastoral Prayer the lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Choral response Love shall be our token; love be yours and love be mine; love to God and all men, love for plea and gift and sign. hymn 219 What Child Is This? GREENSLEEVES What child is this who, laid to rest, on Mary's lap is sleeping? Whom angels greet with anthems sweet, while shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing; haste, haste to bring him laud, the babe, the son of Mary. Why lies he in such mean estate where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christians, fear, for sinners here the silent Word is pleading. This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing; haste, haste to bring him laud, the babe, the son of Mary. So bring him incense, gold, and myrrh, come, peasant, king, to own him; the King of kings salvation brings, let loving hearts enthrone him. This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing; haste, haste to bring him laud, the babe, the son of Mary. anthem Chris Eaton/Amy Grant Breath of Heaven Cynthia and Keely McGough, soloists I have traveled many moonless nights, cold and weary with a babe inside and I wonder what I've done. Holy Father, you have come and chosen me now to carry your son. I am waiting in a silent prayer, I am frightened by the load I bear. In a world as cold as stone, must I walk this path alone? Be with me now. Be with me now. Breath of Heaven, hold me together. Be forever near me. Breath of Heaven. Breath of Heaven. Lighten my darkness, pour over me Your holiness, for You are holy, Breath of Heaven. Do You wonder as you watch my face, if a wiser one should have had my place? But I offer all I am, for the mercy of Your plan. Help me be strong, help me be, help me.

Breath of Heaven, hold me together. Be forever near me, Breath of Heaven. Breath of Heaven, lighten my darkness, pour over me Your holiness for You are holy. Breath of Heaven, hold me together. Be forever near me, Breath of Heaven. Breath of Heaven, lighten my darkness, pour over me Your holiness for You are holy. Breath of Heaven, Breath of Heaven, Breath of Heaven. life at st. luke s dedication of tithes and offerings Rev. Phil Greenwald offertory GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN Go, Tell It On the Mountain Keely McGough, soloist Go, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere; go, tell it on the mountain, that Jesus Christ is born. While shepherds kept their watching o'er silent flocks by night, behold throughout the heavens there shown a holy light. Go, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere; go, tell it on the mountain, that Jesus Christ is born. The shepherds feared and trembled, when lo! above the earth, rang out the angel chorus that hailed the Savior's birth. Go, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere; go, tell it on the mountain, that Jesus Christ is born. Down in a lowly manger the humble Christ was born, and God sent us salvation that blessed Christmas morn. Go, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere; go, tell it on the mountain, that Jesus Christ is born. doxology OLD 100 TH Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow; praise Him, all creatures here below; praise Him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Dr. Gary Brown old testament lesson Thus says God, the Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread forth the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people upon it and spirit to those who walk in it: I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness, I have taken you by the hand and kept you; I have given you as a covenant to the people, a light to the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness. I am the Lord, that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to graven images. Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them. (Isaiah 42:5-9) This is the Word of the Lord. hymn 246 Joy to the World ANTIOCH Joy to the World, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King; let every heart prepare Him room, and Heaven and nature sing, and Heaven and nature sing, and Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing. Joy to the World, the Savior reigns! Let men their songs employ; while fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy, repeat, repeat, the sounding joy. No more let sins and sorrows grow, nor thorns infest the ground; He comes to make His blessings flow far as the curse is found, far as the curse is found, far as, far as, the curse is found. He rules the world with truth and grace, and makes the nations prove the glories of His righteousness, and wonders of His love, and wonders of His love, and wonders, wonders, of His love. sending forth The former things have come to pass. God is doing something new. Because God has come to be with us at Christmas we can share God s love and bring hope to the world. The more we know about the Bible, the more we learn about ourselves and those around us. In 2018, we learned more about how the stories in scripture tell us about God, because God s story is our story.
