Halloween Family Fun Night On October 31 our church is sponsoring one of the biggest outreach events of the year! Each year this event has grown and last year we had hundreds from our surrounding community enter the doors of our church (many for the first time!) We hope that you will participate and put October 31 on your calendar. Bring your kids, grandkids, and neighbors. This is a great time to INVITE everyone you know for a fun activity and a safe alternative for children on Halloween night. We offer lots of games, prizes, food and a ton of fun! We need MANY volunteers to make this event happen. How can you help? We need folks to help us set up the games Volunteers to give an hour or so to run each of the games throughout the night. We need about 20 crockpots of chili Donated packs of hot dogs and buns Donated chips Donated soft drinks Donated Halloween candy Please call the church office if you are willing to help in any way! Thank you in advance for helping reach our community and show them the love of Christ.

What can we do to help victims of Hurricane Florence? Pray for our Mission team in Wilmington, North Carolina this week, and the families and people they will encounter as they work and serve. https://www.umcor.org/umcor/relief-supplies/kits Updated Information from the North Alabama Conference of the 256-341-9961 United Methodist Church: Due to extensive flooding, we ask that you refrain from sending supplies until drop-off locations are established and then send only the supplies asked for. We have lists of needed supplies in the Narthex, Great Room lobby, or in the office. One item you can begin collecting is the product called SHOCKWAVE. You can order it through Amazon and other online sources. This product is a disinfectant, sanitizer and cleaner and is better and less hazardous than bleach.

Disaster Relief Team; Giving that Blesses... A group of us are in Wilmington, NC this week to help with the massive clean-up effort from the Hurricane Florence flooding. This is an effort that takes many volunteer hours, tons of supplies, and extensive and ongoing financial support. Here are some ways you can help now and in the weeks and months going forward. First, pray for our team. Pray for our safety and pray that our work would be a blessing to the families we help. Secondly, give to UMCOR. You can write a check to Holmes Street and put UMCOR in the memo line. Find out more about the UMCOR response here: www.umcor.org. Another way we can help as a congregation is to assemble cleaning kits. You can find information about these on the UMCOR website. We also have information available in our lobby spaces or in the church office. Your family, Sunday school class or other group can assemble these and bring them to the church. We will get them to the warehouse in Decatur. You can also go as an individual or as a group to help out at the warehouse. Call or email the church office to find out more information about these opportunities. We have begun our Stewardship Campaign, which will last throughout the month. This is the time for you to prayerfully decide how you will support - in the 2019 calendar year - the work God has for us by your commitment of your prayers, presence, giving, service and witness. Our theme for our campaign is Giving that Blesses. Giving is not just about finances. We also give our time and our energy to the ministry of the church as we pray for the church, engage in worship regularly and in spirit and truth, engage in Christian growth through a Sunday school class or bible discussion group, engage in serving in a ministry area or beyond the walls of the church out in the community and beyond and as we engage in sharing God s love with our neighbors, co-workers, and others. Great things are happening here at Holmes Street, and greater things are yet to come. Let s keep our focus on loving God, loving one another, loving our neighbors, and loving others in an effort to grow God s Kingdom within us, in our community, and around the world. How are you doing your part to grow as a follower of Jesus Christ and help us grow as a family of faith as you gather for worship, serve others in various ways, connect through a grow group, and invest through your giving and your volunteering? How will you take a step up in your engagement for giving and living that blesses? Todd

Ask about some the life-changing ministries with which Holmes Street is involved : Dinner Church, Celebrate Recovery, Searcy Homes and the Limestone Correctional Facility Prison Ministry We currently have a ministry associated with Searcy Homes close to our church. We have families who have participated in VBS, worship, ZONE, and recently we have collected school supplies to help meet the needs of children there. As school is now underway, there is a need for tutors to help children in the after-school program at Searcy Homes. If you have an interest in helping, please call the church office for more information (256-534-8865). Sundays at 5:30 pm Thursdays at 6:00 pm Kairos #66 You are invited to participate as an outside member of Kairos #66, which will be held at Limestone Correctional Facility from October 11-14, 2018. You can participate in the following ways: by praying (sign up for the prayer vigil) by baking and packaging cookies to specific guidelines by purchasing $5.00 meal tickets Scripture speaks of how we are to share our brotherly love with those who are in prison. Only those meeting specific prison training requirements can go into the prison. However, all Christians can be with us in Spirit while we are in the facility. So, please join as a member of Kairos #66. Prayer vigil sign-up sheets, cookie instructions and meal tickets will be made available to all who want to help. Bill Glover

Opportunity Tesha Crump, the After-School & Program Director at Searcy Homes has relayed to us that tutors are needed to work with the elementary and middle-school youth. Tesha has been able to help students raise their grade point averages each of the past couple of years and could use our help. Let me know if you are interested. Eddie
