Leader: We gather in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen Confession and Forgiveness Leader: Let us come into the light of Christ, confessing our need for God s mercy. Silence is kept for reflection. Leader: Leader: Almighty God, We confess that we are often not at peace with others or with ourselves. We bring to you all that pulls us apart: discord in our families, violence in our world, and our own conflicted hearts. In your mercy, Lord, heal us. Reconnect us to one another and to you. Let peace reign over all the earth, through the Prince of Peace, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. In Christ the Word who has come to dwell with us, God has given us grace upon grace, forgiveness that is stronger than our sins, and love that can heal every broken heart. Hear this Word of God s pardon and peace: In the name of Jesus our Savior, you are free from all your sins. Rise, shine, for your light has come. Thanks be to God. Lesson Isaiah 60:1-3, 6b Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will appear over you. Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn. They shall bring gold and frankincense, and shall proclaim the praise of the Lord. Anthem His Light in Us God s distant call flares in the night, So long expected, so longed for; And all my life, Christ called my name, And now at last I ll answer Him. Renewed, his hope, his light in us, Incarnate, fragile our Lord appears, Alleluia, alleluia! Eternal, so perfect, his cry of changeless love. Alive, awake, His call is here: It is the crying of the Child; I know Christ s call, its hidden flame, It makes my spirit flare with hope. Renewed, his hope, his light in us, Incarnate, fragile our Lord appears, Alleluia, alleluia! Eternal, so perfect, His cry of changeless love. Psalm 72:10-11 Read in unison May the kings of Tarshish and of the isles render the Lord tribute. May the kings of Sheba and Seba bring gifts. May all kings fall down before the Lord, all nations give him service. Kim André Arnesen St. Andrew s Choir This root, this stem, this flowering love, this mustard seed. Anthem 10:30 God s Heart Composed by the 1&2 Orff Ensemble Grades 1&2 Orff Ensemble Sacrament of Holy Baptism 10:30 Maya Rae McFarland child of Molly and Zachary McFarland Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Children s Sermon Hymn Bright and Glorious Is the Sky Sages from the East afar, when they saw this wondrous star, went to find the king of nations And to offer their oblations unto him as Lord and King, unto him as Lord and King. dejlig er den himmel blaa As a star, God s holy word leads us to our King and Lord; brightly from its sacred pages shall this light throughout the ages shine upon our path of life, shine upon our path of life. Holy Gospel Matthew 2:1-12 All (sung): Glory to you, O Lord. In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage. When King Herod heard this, he was frightened, and all Jerusalem with him; and calling together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. They told him, In Bethlehem of Judea; for so it has been written by the prophet: And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who is to shepherd my people Israel. Then Herod secretly called for the wise men and learned from them the exact time when the star had appeared. Then he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, Go and search diligently for the child; and when you have found him, bring me word so that I may also go and pay him homage. When they had heard the king, they set out; and there, ahead of them, went the star that they had seen at its rising, until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another road. Leader: The Gospel of the Lord. All (sung): Praise to you, O Christ. 7
