We gather in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen Confession and Forgiveness Based on Luke 2:22, 51-55 Let us confess our sins against God, and reconcile with our neighbors. Silence for Confession Silence Silence We have opposed your ways, O God. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We have not listened to your voice. Your Spirit reveals our inmost desires. You show us who we truly are. Show us your mercy, O God. And grant us your salvation. By your light, may we see light. Silence The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness does not overcome it. God s mercy is over all God s works. You are forgiven. Walk in the light of Christ. We are forgiven and walk in the light of Christ. Glory be to God! Amen 3

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. Prayer of the Day Lord Jesus, shine in our hearts. Shine in our lives. Shine in the Word proclaimed. May we, as children of your light, follow you. In your name we pray. Amen Lesson Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all, training us to renounce impiety and worldly passions, and in the present age to live lives that are self-controlled, upright, and godly, while we wait for the blessed hope and the manifestation of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. He it is who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds. Solo Gesu Bambino Pietro Yon; arr. Mark Hayes Victoria Richmond Sundberg, soloist Psalm 96 O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples. For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be revered above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. 5
Hymn Angels, from the Realms of Glory regent Sacrament of Holy Baptism 10:30 Kennedy Lynn Kovacs child of Courtney and James Kovacs Bennett Adam Slinger child of Elizabeth and Adam Slinger Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. 6 Continued on next page
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen Holy Gospel Luke 2:22-40 All (sung): Glory to you, O Lord. When the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every firstborn male shall be designated as holy to the Lord ), and they offered a sacrifice according to what is stated in the law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons. Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; this man was righteous and devout, looking forward to the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit rested on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord s Messiah. Guided by the Spirit, Simeon came into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him what was customary under the law, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying, Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel. And the child s father and mother were amazed at what was being said about him. Then Simeon blessed them and said to his mother Mary, This child is destined for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed so that the inner thoughts of many will be revealed and a sword will pierce your own soul too. The Gospel of the Lord. All (sung): Praise to you, O Christ. Sermon My Eyes Have Seen Your Salvation Offering I Saw Three Ships Pastor Brian Norsman arr. Diane Bish 7
