Part II Mary in Scripture
Mary in Scripture from Genesis to Revelation
Mary in Genesis " I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel." Genesis 3:15
Mary is "The Woman" Genesis 3:15 John 2:3-4 John 19:28 Revelation 12:4
"The Woman" in John When the wine failed, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." And Jesus said to her, "Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come." His mother said to the servers, "Do whatever he tells you." John 2:3-4
"The Woman" again When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son!" John 19:26
"The Woman" in Revelation And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to bear a child, that he might devour her child when she brought it forth; she brought forth a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world. Revelation 12:4
Typology Typology is where a person or event in the Old Testament foreshadows a greater person or event in the New Testament.
Typology Typology is where a person or event in the Old Testament foreshadows a greater person or event in the New Testament. Example: King David foreshadowed Jesus. Both were shepherds Both were born in Bethlehem Both started public life at age 30 Both were King of Israel
Eve foreshadows Mary Genesis
Mary - The New Eve Eve Eve was created full of grace. Eve participated willingly in the act she performed. Eve listened to a fallen angel, and conceived death. Eve disobeys, and therefore brings sin and death into the world. Mary Mary was created full of grace. Mary participated willingly in the act she performed. (Fiat!) Mary listened to the angel Gabriel and conceived life. Mary obeys, and therefore brings life and salvation into the world.
Bathsheba foreshadows Mary 1 Kings 2:13-20
King Solomon & Bathsheba Note: The King s mother is the queen. The King rises when his mother enters the room. The King bows to his mother. The King has a chair brought for her, on his right. She intercedes for the people. The King will not refuse her requests.
Bathsheba foreshadows Mary As Queen and Intercessor Then Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. " I have one request to make of you; do not refuse me." She said to him, "Say on." And he said, "Pray ask King Solomon--he will not refuse you--to give me Abishag the Shunammite as my wife." Bathsheba said, "Very well; I will speak for you to the king." So Bathsheba went to King Solomon, to speak to him on behalf of Adonijah. And the king rose to meet her, and bowed down to her; then he sat on his throne, and had a seat brought for the king's mother; and she sat on his right. Then she said, "I have one small request to make of you; do not refuse me." And the king said to her, "Make your request, my mother; for I will not refuse you." 1 Kings 2:13-20

The Ark of the Covenant
The Ark of the Covenant foreshadows Mary
The Old and the New The Old Ark of the Covenant The New Ark of the Covenant
The Ark of the Covenant Contents The Old Ark of the Covenant The Presence of God Aaron s staff, symbolizing the priesthood Manna from the desert, bread from Heaven Fragments of the Ten Commandments (The Law) The New Ark of the Covenant Mary carried the Presence of God in her womb. Mary carried the new High Priest in her womb. Mary carried the true Bread of Heaven in her womb. Mary carried Jesus, who gave us the New Law.
Mary - The Ark of the Covenant David was moving the Ark to the City of David, but they stopped in the hill country and decided to let it stay there for three months. When the Ark was finally delivered to the City of David, David celebrated and leapt before the Lord. During that time, "David feared the LORD that day and said, "How can the ark of the Lord come to me?" (2 Samuel 6)

(2 Samuel 6) In the same way, Mary went to the hill country for three months, and the baby in Elizabeth's womb leapt for joy upon their meeting. Elizabeth says, "And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me"? (Luke 1:43)
The Ark of the Covenant in the Book of Revelation Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen within his temple; and there were flashes of lightning, voices, peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail. And a great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars; she was with child. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to bear a child, that he might devour her child when she brought it forth; she brought forth a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne. A Reminder We do not worship Mary!
A Reminder We only ask for her intercession.
An Early Marian Prayer The Memorare Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known, that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
Amen!
