Not only would I say that the family is important for the evangelization of the new world. The family is important, and it is necessary for the survival of humanity. Without the family, the cultural survival of the human race would be at risk. The family, whether we like it or not, is the foundation. God calls you to make definitive choices, and he has a plan for each of you: to discover that plan and to respond to your vocation is to move forward toward personal fulfillment. God calls each of us to be holy, to live his life, but he has a particular path for each one of us. Some are called to holiness through family life in the sacrament of Marriage. Today, there are those who say that marriage is out of fashion. Is it out of fashion? In a culture of relativism and the ephemeral, many preach the importance of enjoying the moment. They say that it is not worth making a life-long commitment, making a definitive decision, forever, because we do not know what tomorrow will bring. I ask you, instead, to be revolutionaries, I ask you to swim against the tide; yes, I am asking you to rebel against this culture that sees everything as temporary and that ultimately believes you are incapable of responsibility, that believes you are incapable of true love. I have confidence in you and I pray for you. Have the courage to swim against the tide. And also have the courage to be happy. How precious is the family as the privileged place for transmitting the faith! Speaking about family life, I would like to say one thing: today, as Brazil and the Church around the world celebrate this feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, Grandparents Day is also being celebrated. How important grandparents are for family life, for passing on the human and religious heritage which is so essential for each and every society! How important it is to have intergenerational exchanges and dialogues, especially within the context of the family. (Cfr. Pope Francis to the Youth and Bishops of Brazil, World Youth Day, Rio de Janeiro, summer 2013)

PIUS X SCHOOL NEWS We are enjoying a restful break! We pray that your Christmas day was one of joy and blessings, and that your new year brings you peace and love! This time of year is especially fun for little ones, and we are sure that our preschool and pre-k students have loved this Christmas break. We are proud to offer a strong preschool and pre-k program at our school that includes academics, building social skills, faith formation, and play. Our students leave our program to join our kindergarten as confident learners. They have built strong friendships in their time together, so continuing on in kindergarten together is only natural! To come and see the value of our full-day program for 3 or 4-year-olds, consider attending our Open House on Sunday, Jan. 27 th, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. You can call the school to RSVP at (303) 364-6515 and ask for Jackie, or you can RSVP through our website at www.stpiusxschool.net. Teacher Highlight: Maribel Talafuse is one of our new pre-k teachers. She is one of two lead-teachers in our classroom of mixed three and four-year-olds. Mari taught in Catholic schools in Texas before she was a mom. She has a bachelor s degree in interdisciplinary studies with a focus in education from the University of Texas Rio Grande. Mari has seven children of her own, and she has been homeschooling them. Now that her husband has retired from the military, she has stepped back into the work world. We are very excited to have her at our school! Eileen Michalczyk, Principal
