Joseph Ryland, 33 Master of Kadosh Consistory As Master of Kadosh I highly recommend that all Scottish Rite Masons attend the stated meeting on Friday, May 7, 2010. The Los Angeles Scottish Rite will confer the 15th degree. It is especially important that our new members, who have not seen this degree, take advantage of this opportunity and see a very educational and inspiring degree. When we first experienced the Scottish Rite degrees, we came to understand that there are woven within the words and the work; moral and symbolic lessons of life. We were reinforced with our relationship with God and our communications with one another. As with any other class of higher learning and education, it is up to the student, or candidate, to study, and search for himself, the meanings of the course of education that he is pursuing. We must make use of those ideas that we learn from the degrees and incorporate those principles of the Fraternity into our own actions and communications with one another. To some people, this may seem to be useless information, as it may not apply to their way of life or the understanding of what they have received in their search for more light, and maybe even truth as understood from their perspective. However, the history of our lives is still being written, for the understanding of those who desire knowledge. The lessons of the 32nd degree are apparent in the life of Sen. Bob Dole, who was twice decorated for heroism and valor during the second world war, sacrificing his health and future mobility in an attempt to save a downed radioman... - Jim Hoerricks, 320 KCCH, Classroom Director
4 Pasadena Scottish Rite Bulletin 13 Let there be Light Have Tux - Will Travel by Arthur H. Zabounian, 32 KSA Librarian Even after one year of his passing, our brother, Roy Henville still continues to educate the brethren I have not had the pleasure of sharing time with our late brother, but after reading his impressive biography and his heartfelt eulogy, this outstanding ritualist, a fine gentleman of noble character, who a Mason of 65 years, a Past Grand Master, and a Trustee and Board member to several concordant bodies, leaves me with reverence and awe. My inquiry into his personality led me to believe (based on the testimonies of several of his peers) that he was indeed Masons Mason. His humility as a leader, his intellect and desire to teach those who were willing to listen were just a few of his qualities a Master Mason indeed. His own original copy of Coil s Masonic Encyclopedia was just recently donated to his mother lodge in San Marino by his family. Along with a photo album containing pictures of the reception of him becoming the Grand Master in 1985. These items will be on display in the San Marino Lodge, at your discretion, until their retirement to the Pasadena Scottish Rite Library and Museum. My brother, your memory will live on by the Light that you continue to shed. and there was Light. Make your checks payable to: California Scottish Rite Foundation Pasadena. A Scottish Rite Mason may not become a national leader or an industry titan. He may just quietly apply the royal secret in his life; serving those around him and enriching their lives and his. - Jim Hoerricks, 320 KCCH, Classroom Director

Now we need a lot of money to keep up our good work. All the help you can provide will be sincerely appreciated. Thank you. Just a quick comment. Our Sovereign Grand Inspector General, Ill. Bill Stovall, 33 and the Grand Master Ken Nagel, 33, thoroughly enjoyed their viewing of The Spirit of Hiram play presented to all Master Masons on March 26th. Quoting the Grand Master every Mason in California should see this play. For those of you who may not be aware, The Spirit of Hiram has been presented by the Valley of Pasadena every year since 1929, a total of 81 years. It just has to be viewed by all Masons. We ll do it again next March under the direction of Ill. Bob Sechrest, 33. Ill. Bob succeeds Ill. Ernie Pooleon 33 who has been the director for more than a decade. Ill. Ernie served as Director with great distinction and we say thanks Ernie. Great dedication and service to the Pasadena Scottish Rite. I hope to see you at the May Reunion.
