Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he? The son of David, they replied. He said to them, How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him Lord? For he says, The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet. If then David calls him Lord, how can he be his son? No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions. Matt. 22:34-46 The order of the Readings for this week is as follows: TODAY: Isaiah 66:1-24; Colossians 2:8-3:17; Matthew 22:34-23:39 Monday: Daniel 7:2-27; 1 Corinthians 12:1-7 God: Song of Songs 1:1-11; Proverbs 11:30-12:4; Isaiah 52:7-10; Zechariah 2:10-13; Malachi 3:1-2; 2 Corinthians 6:16-7:1; Luke 1:26-38 Tuesday: Corinthians 12:8-27 Wednesday: Exodus 4:1-21; Joel 3:9-21 Thursday: Ezekiel 37:1-14; 1 Timothy 3:14-16 Friday: Deuteronomy 11:10-25; Job 21:1-34; Isaiah 46:3-47:4 Saturday: Proverbs 14:27-35; 1 Thessalonians 4:12-17; John 11:55-12:11 THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT Today s passage is also recorded in the Gospel of Luke. When some incident or passage recorded in more than one gospel, we better pay more attention to it. IT MUST BE VERY IMPORTANT! In Jesus time, Pharisees were teachers of the Law. They knew the Law very well. Often when a Pharisee asked a question to Jesus, the intention was to either trap Him, or to see whether Jesus was going to say any thing to contradict with the Scripture. Here we see the pharisees got together and then one of them asked the question: Which is the greatest commandment in the law, In other words they wanted really to test Jesus either to find out whether the teacher knew His stuff or to find something to accuse Him for. The Pharisees also were known as the Religious groups of those days, in this incident we see they were trapped by asking the most important question on the greatest Commandment. Because they were negligent in helping their neighbors. Jesus quoted from the Book of Deuteronomy 6:5 HEAR O ISRAEL: THE LORD OUR GOD, THE LORD IS ONE. LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH. It is interesting to see that Jesus did not stop here; He gave the second important Commandment too. AND THE SECOND IS LIKE IT, He continued, YOU MUST LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR AS YOURSELF. We Welcome Visitors & Hope You Enjoy Worshipping with Us Please sign the Guest Book in the foyer. If there is anything we can do for you, please let us know by filling out the welcome card that is in the pew racks in front of you and leave in the office or foyer. HOW TO FOLLOW THE LITURGY We have Liturgy Books in the pew racks, take one and follow the pages illuminated on the wall. This way the Liturgy will become more meaningful to you. ----------------------------------------------- Morning service starts at 9:30 ~ Badarak () begins at 10:00 The sermon will be delivered at 11:00. Sunday can be seen on NCTV 11 Friday s at 10am ------------------------------------------------ SOORP ASDVADZADZIN ARMENIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH 315 Church Street, Whitinsville, MA Tel: 508-234-3677 - Fax: 508-865-4333 Pastor Stepanian office: 508-865-2454; home: 508-865-4004 E-mail aram2@charter.net ~ www.armenianchurchofwhit.org Religion consists in loving God above every person or thing. That verse was part of the basic and essential teaching of Judaism. A sentence with which every Jewish service still opens, and the first text which every Jewish child commits to memory. It means that to God only we must give our total unreserved love, a love which dominates our emotions, a love which directs our thoughts, and a love which is the dynamic of our daily actions and life. The second Commandment that Jesus quoted was from the Book of Leviticus: LOVING YOUR NEIGHBOUR AS YOURSELF. What the Scripture is saying is this, the love of God first and foremost then the love of your fellow men should follow. It is only when we love God with all our heart, mind and soul our fellowmen will become loveable. Even the ones those are dislikeable. BY LOVING GOD WE WILL HAVE THE LOVE OF GOD, AND WHEN WE HAVE THE GENUINE LOVE OF GOD ONLY THEN WE WILL LOVE OUR NEIGHBOUR AND CARE FOR HIM. HAVE YOU FALLEN IN LOVE WITH GOD?
