Pentecost Sunday May 20, 2018 Solemnity of Pentecost Veni, Creator Spiritus, Mentes tuorum visita, Imple superna gratia, Quae tu creasti pectora. Creator Spirit, Lord of grace, Come make in us your dwelling place. O purest Light, in darkness. So we sing, on this Pentecost Day, Come, Holy Ghost, and in us take up thy rest. But we know, as baptized and confirmed children of God, there is no rest for those who claim Christ as our Savior! Amen? It s ALWAYS Go Time and Game On as His disciples. No longer allowed to sit on the sidelines of our catholic faith, we are to teach and heal, preach and guide, listen and learn, love and bring love to the entire world as the Great Commission was given to us. The relay, so to speak, took place last week as we celebrated The Ascension of the Lord, when the Lord passed the baton to His disciples and to Us to take up His mission and to carry His Words and Ways to the entire world by our words and actions, attitudes and deeds. And today, as the disciples are gathered in the Upper Room, the Spirit filled them WITH the power and presence of God to BECOME disciples of His Word and Way. Baptized by FIRE and the HOLY SPIRIT, the Scriptures record that the Holy Spirit came to rest on each one of them and they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. Part and parcel of our mission to live and love and proclaim the Good News is to be of service and sacrifice for others. This weekend s FOLLOW UP CATHOLIC CHARI- TIES APPEAL is yet another way to extend our mission to be His servants in the world as we offer our treasure and prayer for the specific Opioid Crisis. As the recent bulletin article called our attention to the reality of that Crisis here in Cleveland, Bishop Perez has asked each one of us to consider either a new pledge at this time or an increase in our current pledge to support this endeavor. It s a good thing to BE CATHOLIC and it s a great way to show our commitment to CARE FOR OTHERS - #YourMercy. Envelopes are IN THE PEWS for your SUPPORT today. AGAIN, Congratulations to our Confirmand who celebrated the gifts and fruits of the Spirit last Saturday with Abbot Gary Hoover, OSB. Abbot highlighted for our Confirmand the need to call on the Lord at all times and to invite Him into our lives and the lives of our hurting brothers and sisters. Good words to live by! Congratulations Confirmand! THANKS to you all for your generous SUPPORT in the Sunday Collection and Roof Project! Blessings! Father John

I cannot believe that we are already at the end of the Easter celebrations, school year, and choir season! Lots of fantastic music has been made and friendships have been made: I am so pleased with how everything went! Thank you to all music ministry members who have been so dedicated to the song of our faith community! While we will not be meeting for rehearsals, everyone is still welcome to celebrate mass up in the loft with me! I will also be accepting prelude auditions and requests from EVERYONE, music ministry or from the general community! Let your musical voice be heard this summer, and maybe consider joining us for next year! It s our last week of singing our Song of Praise for the Easter season! Here are the lyrics. We worship and adore You, Bowing down before You. Songs of praises singing, Hallelujahs ringing. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, Amen. Traditional Choir, Contemporary Choir, and Youth Choir are off for the summer. All choir members are welcome to sing up in the loft during weekend masses. Summer is a perfect time to audition for involvement in one of our ensembles, especially for prelude solos! If you are interested in participating in any of these choirs, cantoring, or playing an instrument during mass, please call or see me after mass up in the loft. Please contact the music ministry office for more information: 440.243.3877 ext 27. These reports will be emailed to our Parents during the month of June. The 2018-19 PSR Registration is now open. Registration forms were sent home with students. Open enrollment forms are available on the parish website: http://www.stmaryberea.org/contacts-forms SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION Congratulations to our Confirmation Candidates. Thanks to Abbott Gary Hoover for presiding and thanks to all those volunteers for a wonderful reception after the ceremony. Stay tuned for information about next year s Sacramental Program. Planning will begin soon! Family Perspective The Apostles didn t recognize Jesus until they saw his wounds. Don t look for God s presence only in the joyful moments of family life. Expect to find God in the evening of the day, when you are exhausted and cranky or when you are most aware of our family s failures and shortcomings. Today s gospel reminds us that the wounded Christ is standing among us through the Holy Spirit, urging us to forgive and offering us peace. Parish Ministry Spotlight For I was...a Stranger and You Welcomed Me Matthew 25:35 Would you like to help legally admitted refuges settle here in the Cleveland Area? Would you like to help legally admitted refugees who have come through the federal Refugees Admissions Program resettle here? Our parish would like to start a group to do just that. Partnering with Cleveland Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Services, our group would assist these refugees who have fled their home countries in fear of persecution because of their ethnicity, nationality, social group, religious affiliation or political beliefs to establish their life in the Cleveland area. As a group, we would decide what type of assistance we would like to give. This can range from simply collecting furniture for a refugee family s new home to mentoring family and helping them adjust to life in the U.S. If you would be interested in joining the group, please contact Alane Mastandrea at (440)625-359/alane.mastandrea@gmail.com or Amanda Mazi at (216) 727-6779/ a.mazi0319@gmail.com Who: St. Mary Refugee Assistance Group What: Refugee 101 Volunteer / Mentoring Orientation When: May 22, 2018 Where: St. Augustine Towers 7800 Detroit Avenue Cleveland, Ohio When: 6:30pm - 8:30pm RSVP: alane.mastandrea@gmail.com You do not need to commit to mentoring to come.
