S t. P a u l s Y o u t h N e w s l e t t e r Volume 33 Issue No.1 INSERT BANNER LOGO HERE P A R D O N O U R C O N S T R U C T I O N Please be advised: In order to bring you a more helpful Youth Newsletter, changes will be occurring over the next several months. Exciting News from our Council on Youth Ministries! On August 27, at roughly 6:30 P.M. E.S.T., our illustrious Council On Youth Ministries voted to change our official name from St. Paul's United Methodist Youth Fellowship (SPUMYF) to St. Paul's Youth, henceforth known as SPY! This change will mostly affect publications, but will allow for our new Youth Pastor to more easily create logos, promotional materials, and maybe even some freebees for the group. You may have noticed changes already, starting with the name of this newsletter. We hope you are just as excited as Micah is for this change (he's really excited). Micah promises not to take too much advantage of this name change, and promises that he will never refer to the youth as "agents" Unless you really want him to. Next CYM Meeting Interested on helping to make decisions for the youth group and having your voice heard? Contact Micah at msmartt@stpaulsk.org to become part of our Council on Youth Ministries. Our next meeting is October 8, from 5:00 6:30. Social Media We are now on Social Media! For updates, pictures of events, and various other media: fb.me/stpaulskyouth StPaulsK_Youth Read Below for our Photo and Social Media Policy Pictures taken at youth events may be used as promotional material on Facebook, Instagram, or church publications. If you are uncomfortable with having your picture being used in this way for any reason, please contact Micah at msmartt@stpaulsk.org so he can remove any pictures, and we will not use any pictures featuring you/your child in the future. When using pictures in church publications, we will not attach names. Any ways in which you interact with our social media is up to you and your parents and is not a required part of participation in youth programming. Any use of social media on our part is for promotion of events, including but not limited to weekly Youth Group, Retreats, and special events. We may tag individuals on Instagram. If you are uncomfortable with a tag or a picture, we will remove it immediately.

Middle High Youth has begun! Our Middle School youth programing has begun! You can find us in the youth lounge Friday nights from 7-8:30(ish)! We'll be having fun and doing short bible lessons just about every week! Don't worry if you missed our first couple of August sessions we are always glad to see new faces! Senior High Youth begins September 10th! Youth grades 9-12 are invited to come spend time in our newly renovated youth lounge, play games, and learn a little bit more about the Bible and the Christian Faith. Senior High Youth are welcoming to meet starting at 6:30, regular programming starts at 7:00 and ends at 8:30. Fall Study Classes Youth are invited and encouraged to sign up for the church's fall study classes. There are several offerings this year on either Monday or Tuesday nights, including studies about Jesus's Sermons, the Book of Romans, Comics and Christianity, and Methodism in the Modern World. Check the St. Paul s website, the Epistle, or the church narthex for more information. Essential Conversation on Race Event with Milagros Phillips on September 16, 9:00 am-11:30 am: Two youth scholarships are available for this church event. Please email cmatheny@stpaulsk.org for more information. Youth Art Day "The artist is not a different kind of person, but every person is a different kind of artist." It doesn't matter whether the most you can do is glue two pieces of paper together or if you can paint a masterpiece on a canvas, we need your help! Our youth lounge is severely lacking in art. On September 17, right after church from 11:45 1:15 in the Multi-Purpose Room (next to the youth lounge), and with the help of the incredibly talented Kenzie Raulin, we'll be making all sorts of art for every season! Come with ideas, your favorite Bible verses, and some clothes that can be painted in. We'll provide the rest! If you have any questions, feel free to contact Micah at msmartt@stpaulsk.org Sunday School Sunday School Starts for both Senior High and Middle High on September 10 during the 10:30 service! 6th Grade will be taught by Susie Snell and Amy Frontz. 7th 8th Grades will be taught by Jay Codner and Jim Smith. Senior High will be taught by Micah Smartt (Co-Teacher TBD.) For more information on Sunday School, contact Meg Baker at mbaker@stpaulsk.org. Looking for Babysitters! St. Paul's is hoping to connect potential babysitters and families. Visit http://stpaulsk.org/community/calendarevents to fill out an interest form.

More information to come in the October Newsletter. St. Paul's Christmas Extravaganza Youth Fundraiser Our Council on Youth Ministries has decided to organize a holiday fundraiser, which is currently being scheduled and fleshed out. More details to appear in the following months. If you have a talent that you d be interested in sharing, please contact Micah at msmartt@stpaulsk.org Work Camp At Virginia Beach Every year, our youth group has taken a trip to a Work Camp, sponsored by Group Mission Trips. This past summer, we were blessed to be in St. Francis, South Dakota on the Rosebud Reservation of the Sicangu Sioux Tribe. In Summer 2018, we will be traveling to Virginia Beach, Virginia. (Yes, there is a beach in Virginia Beach.) Our trip is scheduled for June 24 through June 30. We have 18 slots reserved for youth and adults, so be on the lookout for a signup soon! Wilderness Trail Wilderness Trail is a program which allows participants to spend a week hiking the Appalachian Trail. This last year, 6 youth and 2 adults hiked this trail, and had a fantastic time. We will reserve spots mid-september, so look for more information in the October Newsletter. ROCK 2018 ROCK is a powerful and fun-filled weekend in Ocean City, MD. The event is a worship experience and spiritual retreat like no other! It is an awesome experience for youth to more fully connect with God and their friends while listening to great bands and speakers. You will leave ROCK renewed and ready to spread the word about God s great love for us. This year s speaker is our Bishop, LaTrelle Eastering! Plenty more opportunities are coming!
