Loving God! Loving People! Loving Life! Message Notes Retrain Your Brain Part Three Life Church Smyrna Sunday, March 18, 2018 10:30am Pastor Shell Osbon Matthew 6:24-34 24 No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. 25 Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 28 So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not worry, saying, What will we eat? or What will we drink? or What will we wear? 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (NKJV) 1. 1. This Is Not A Time To Worry Worry is mental distress or agitation resulting from concern for something that may or may not happen. Earl Nightingale: Worry is divided into four categories: 40% are things that will never happen 30% are things that happened in the past 12% are needless worries about health 10% are petty worries 92% are pure fog with no substance 8% are legitimate matters of concern. 4
Earl Nightingale: Worry is like a dense fog that can cloud our vision, knock our perspective out of kilter and slow us down. A fog covering several city blocks is only a few ounces of water - less than it would take to fill a drinking glass. The rest is just air and most of our worries are just air, as well. E. Joseph Cossman: If you want to test your memory try to remember what you were worrying about one year ago today. 5
