Pilgrimage Celtic Christianity & the Great Northern Saints You are invited to join us on this Pilgrimage following in the footsteps of the Great Northern Saints who are associated with the north east of England and continue to inspire and encourage Christians into the 21st century. The writings of the Venerable Bede, one of England s greatest scholars, who tells of the lives of Aidan, Cuthbert, Hilda and Cedd - and all of their contemporaries - form the backdrop to a remarkable few days of journey and discovery. During our pilgrimage, we will visit places connected with these great Saints and other sites enriched with Celtic meaning and Christian history such as Durham, Holy Island, Whitby, Lastingham and Monkwearmouth. Thus we will discover something of the obedience of Aidan, the wisdom of Hild, the scholarship of Bede, the commitment to the church of Wilfrid, and the holiness and humility of Cuthbert all of them offering us, from centuries in the past, insights that are just as relevant to us as Christians of the 21st Century. Pilgrimage brings us into the company of God and heightens are awareness of the Communion of the Saints. I hope that we shall be blessed by your company, and I invite you to travel with us. who, when the night of this world is past, gives to his saints the promise of the light of life, Venerable Bede The Revd John McManners An expert on Celtic Christianity and the Northern Saints.
