Worship resources for children are available at the sanctuary entrances. Prelude God of Our Fathers Amy Bishop, Organist arr. Broughton The word worship comes from an old English term that was not originally religious in connotation. Worship simply meant to ascribe honor to something or someone because of its/their ultimate importance. This is what we do when we worship God. *Call to Worship One: Lift up your voice and call out to God. ALL: We cry out, believing that God hears us. One: Come together and wait for God. ALL: We come together, trusting that God is still speaking. One: Surely God s presence is here with us now. ALL: We wait in hope, for God s steadfast love lifts our hearts. One: Come, worship the Lord. Mel Baxter ALL: We celebrate the power of God that restores us. * Please stand if able. *Opening Hymn 338 O Beautiful for Spacious Skies materna

*Prayer of Confession (All) Silence for Personal Confession In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen. Rev. Jann Briscoe Almighty God, trusting you does not always come easy when each day we are faced with the ugliness of the world. We do not always believe that love conquers fear. We are not convinced that power comes through weakness. We cannot conceive how you could heal us. Forgive our lack of faith, O God, and renew our trust in you. *Assurance of Pardon *Gloria Patri h.w. greatorex Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Brandon Jolley Prayer of Thanksgiving and the Lord s Prayer (All) Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. america Rev. Brandon Jolley has asked to offer words of appreciation for the support and encouragement of St. Simons Presbyterian Church. Brandon, Monica, and Adeline were active members of SSPC for many years prior to Brandon s call to ministry. The Jolley Family now live in Franklin, Indiana where Brandon serves as pastor of Hopewell Presbyterian Church. Offertory E. Mazunik/DARWALL S 148th Before the Lord We Bow Chancel Choir

*Doxology old hundredth Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. *Prayer of Dedication WE PROCLAIM GOD S WORD Word for Children All children please come forward at the pastor s invitation. Following the Word for Children, children Preschool-2nd grade may leave for KidZ Worship. The church confesses the Scriptures to be the word of God written, witnessing to God s self-revelation in Jesus Christ, the Living Word. Where that word is read and proclaimed, Jesus Christ the Living Word is present by the inward witness of the Holy Spirit. For this reason the reading, hearing, preaching, and confessing of the Word are central to Christian worship. Old Testament Lesson One: This is the Word of the Lord. ALL: Thanks be to God. New Testament Lesson Prayer for Illumination Psalm 130 Page 969 OT Mark 5:21-43 Page 1559 NT Mel Baxter Sermon Rev. Alan Dyer *Affirmation of Faith (All) The Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

WE GATHER AT THE TABLE Invitation to the Table Prayer of Thanksgiving Sharing the Bread and the Cup The practice of receiving communion by intinction is an ancient one. When taking Communion by intinction, the body of the Church acts together, moving as a community towards the Table. Worshippers are invited to come forward, take a piece of bread, and intinct or dip it in the cup, place it in their mouth, and return to their seats. Gluten free bread is available for those with gluten allergies. Additionally, an elder is available to bring communion to you where you are seated. Communion Hymn 529 Draw Us in the Spirit s Tether union seminary The Lord s Supper is not just the celebration of an event that happened long ago and far away the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Supper also looks to the future in hope, because the Christ who died and was raised also promises to come again and to gather all creation around his messianic table. Our participation in this sacrament is a foretaste of what is yet to be. To Ponder Prayerfully Hungry for God We have food to share with a world that is hungry, even famished. Spiritual wanderers those spiritually starved and denied show up at our doors, not because they like our buildings or even because they like us, but because they are hungry. Hungry for forgiveness, for rest and peace. Hungry for mercy and grace. Hungry to explore and grow. Hungry for the good news of new life, of abundant life. Hungry for God to do a new thing.
