The Mass and time for fellowship was held this year at St. Benedict Parish in Halifax. Since we now have another parish where Companions of the Cross priests Fr. Simon Lobo and Fr. Alex Colautti are serving, we decided that our parish communities would alternate in hosting this event. It was an awesome night of extended Praise and Worship in the Mass led by the Saint Benedict Parish 9am band. Fr. Bryan did a great job of presiding and Fr. Simon gave a powerful and inspiring homily that night. At the end of the Mass, a video of Fr. Alex Colautti talking about vocations to the priesthood was shown. Hundreds of people came from many different parishes in the Archdiocese to support the Companions of the Cross in this event. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Companions of the Cross Lay Associates for spearheading the organization of the event in cooperation with the team from St. Benedict who had been very gracious in hosting us. In response to the sex abuse scandal happening in the Catholic Church, I want to invite everyone to join together in a 9-day Novena of prayer and fasting from September 27 up to October 5. A Mass of Reparation and Healing will close the novena and be held on Saturday October 6 at 9am at St. Elizabeth Seton Church. It is good that we can do this together as a parish. We are all part of the one body of Christ. If a member of the body is ailing, all the other members will be affected too. We know that there is a poison in the Catholic Church that needs to be exposed and by joining in this novena and fast, we pray God will bring healing to His Church. We can t fight this on our own, we need to intercede for God s powerful intervention. I also would like to thank Carmy Digout and all the volunteers who helped in the annual Harvest Festival held last weekend at St. Elizabeth Seton Church. There was a great turnout of people who came for the turkey dinner, joined the raffle draw, played bingo, etc. In its 37 th year, the event always draws people from the community to rekindle old friendships and build new ones. ~ Fr. Ken Lao, CC Novena & Prayer & Mass In response to the sexual abuse crisis in the Church, the Companions of the Cross will be holding a 9 day Novena of Prayer and Fasting, from Sept. 27 th to Oct 5 th. We invite you to join with the Companions of the Cross priests and seminarians to pray and fast for the victims of sexual abuse in the Church, and as reparation for the sins committed. We will conclude this time with a mass of reparation in each of our foundations on Oct. 6 th, the anniversary of the death of our Founder, Fr. Bob Bedard. In Halifax, this mass will take place at 9am at St. Elizabeth Seton church. All are invited and encouraged to attend.

MINISTRY OF CARE AND COMPANIONSHIP is a program in our Parish to respond to the needs of parishioners by bringing the healing of Jesus to those who are hurting or are in need. There are many parishioners in our church community that are homebound, hurting, and marginalized. Such people cannot always participate as fully as they may like in parish activities, including attending Mass. Through its Parish Visitors, the program will provide a valuable link between those visited and the parish. Our ministry outreach is surely part of our baptismal call: Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me. (Matthew 25:40) The role of the Parish Visitor is to offer support to those in need. Following a short training program, the Parish Visitor and/or Eucharistic Minister is sent by the Parish Ministry Team to respond to the needs of parishioners with visits and/or bringing Communion to the homebound and the sick. Visitors may bring Holy Communion, see how the person is doing, spend a little time in prayer with them or read to them the scripture of the day, share information about parish activities, or just sit, listen, and offer a hand of friendship. If you know someone who would like a Parish Visitor or to receive Communion, please contact Julia Batt at 902-865-2009 or email julialandrybatt@gmail.com. Welcome Centre At All Three Masses With our office hours having changed to Monday Friday from 8:30 to 12:00 noon, to accommodate for this change, our plan is to have a Welcome Centre at all three of our locations and open at every mass! The Welcome Centre will offer services such as: Purchasing Mass Cards Registering new parishioners Information on Ministries Providing options on where to serve in our Parish The next step in executing this plan is to find volunteers to serve at each of the Welcome Centre s. If you could commit to 20 minutes before mass and staying 20 minutes after mass once a month, this is the Ministry for you! If you are interested, please contact Kate Pinto at ext. 33. Significant Wedding Anniversaries - 2018 On Saturday, October 13th at the 4:30pm Mass at St. John Vianney, the Parish will be celebrating significant wedding anniversaries (20th, 25th, 30th, 35th, etc.). There is a sign-up sheet in the foyer of each church for those celebrating and wish to attend.

For Families, Children, and Youth. IGNITE Our offering for children Grades 1-5 celebrates that our first Church community is the family! IGNITE gathers the whole family together to learn and share faith side by side with parents, children, and siblings. We will explore and examine the main truths of our faith through an exciting program of experiences, discussions, games, music, drama, and art throughout the faith sharing experience. Gatherings are biweekly with 3 different time slots to choose from. IGNITE Mornings Sundays 10:30 AM 11:30 AM IGNITE Afternoons Sundays 1:15 PM 2:30 PM IGNITE Nighttime Mondays 6:30 PM 7:30 PM THE WAY Our new offering for our youth Grades 6-8 is THE WAY. The Way invites youth to form a deeper friendship with Christ and to respond to Christ s call to Come follow me! in their lives. Through a mix of games, videos, music, discussion, faith sharing, and other activities, we are excited to help our young people take personal ownership of their faith as they continue to grow in the knowledge of just how deeply they are loved by God! The Way meets biweekly on MONDAY EVENINGS from 6:30 pm 7:45 pm SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION REGISTRATION for First Reconciliation and First Communion (for children Grade 2 and up) and Confirmation (for teens Grade 9 and up) is now available. Candidates for receiving these sacraments MUST have participated in faith formation programming for AT LEAST one year immediately prior to their sacramental preparation. Upon registering for these programs families MUST provide the Baptismal Record for their child! Please bring a copy of this with you when you register! JAM - JESUS AND ME! Children s Liturgy at the 10am Mass at St. John Vianney is looking for 2 new leaders so we can continue to provide a fun learning environment for children at Mass. Experience is not a necessity other than a desire to want to share our faith with children. All materials are provided, and you will be part of an awesome team.
