Trinity Lutheran Church & St. John s Lutheran Church The Festival of the Resurrection "This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." God has indeed raised from the dead the one who was put to death "by hanging him on a tree." Alleluia! God allows Jesus to appear "to us who were chosen by God as witnesses" in holy baptism and invites us to eat and drink at the table of the risen Christ. Alleluia!

THE OPENING The Festival of the Resurrection Alleluia! Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed. Alleluia! Give thanks to the LORD, for the LORD is good; God's mercy endures forever. Let Israel now declare, "God's mercy endures forever." The LORD is my strength and my song, and has become My salvation. Shouts of rejoicing and salvation echo in the tents of the righteous: "The right hand of the LORD acts valiantly! The right hand of the LORD is exalted! The right hand of the LORD acts valiantly!" I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD. The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. By the LORD has this been done; it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. ENTRANCE HYMN: LBW #151 Jesus Christ is Risen Today 2

THE KYRIE In peace, let us pray to the LORD. LORD, have mercy. For the peace from above, and for our salvation, let us pray to the LORD. LORD, have mercy. For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the LORD. LORD, have mercy. For this holy house, and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray to the LORD. LORD, have mercy. Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious LORD. Amen. THE HYMN OF PRAISE 3

THE PRAYER OF THE DAY The LORD Be With you And Also With You O God, you gave your only Son to suffer death on the cross for our redemption, and by his glorious resurrection you delivered us from the power of death. Make us die every day to sin, that we may live with him forever in the joy of the resurrection, through your Son, Jesus Christ our LORD, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. THE HOLY WORD THE FIRST LESSON: Isaiah 65:17 25 For I am about to create new heavens and a new earth; the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating; for I am about to create Jerusalem as a joy, and its people as a delight. I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and delight in my people; no more shall the sound of weeping be heard in it, or the cry of distress. No more shall there be in it an infant that lives but a few days, or an old person who does not live out a lifetime; for one who dies at a hundred years will be considered a youth, and one who falls short of a hundred will be considered accursed. They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be, and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labor in vain, or bear children for calamity; for they shall be offspring blessed by the LORD and their descendants as well. Before they call I will answer, while they are yet speaking I will hear. The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox; but the serpent its food shall be dust! They shall not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain, says the LORD. The Word of the LORD. Thanks be to God. THE SECOND LESSON: 1 Corinthians 15:19-26 If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died. For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a human being; for as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. Then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father, after he has destroyed every ruler and every authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. The Word of the LORD. Thanks be to God. Please stand THE GOSPEL ACCLAMATION THE GOSPEL: Luke 24:1-12 The Holy Gospel according to Luke, the twenty-fourth chapter. But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb, taking the spices that they 4

had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in, they did not find the body. While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood beside them. The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again." Then they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb, they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. But these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; then he went home, amazed at what had happened. The Gospel of the LORD. APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father, almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our LORD. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. THE PRAYERS Confident that the resurrection of Christ has defeated sin and death, we offer our prayers for the church, the world, and all people in need. A brief silence. Holy God, you raise up leaders in your church who preach salvation through the death and resurrection of Christ. Inspire us to go and tell this good news throughout the world. LORD, in your mercy, Holy God, you make yourself known in your creation: in mountains and valleys, in plants and animals, and in those who care for what you have made. Lead us and all your creatures to proclaim that this is the day that the LORD has made. LORD, in your mercy, Holy God, you desire that all people live in peace. Guide all in authority at the local, state, national, and international levels, that they show no partiality in their care and concern. LORD, in your mercy, Holy God, you wipe away the tears of all who cry to you in distress. Console those who are afraid, protect those who are persecuted, bring healing to all who suffer in mind, body, or spirit, and comfort those who mourn (especially). LORD, in your mercy, Holy God, you choose us to be witnesses to your love. Bless visitors among us today, those celebrating Easter with family and friends, and those who travel during this holiday time. LORD, in your mercy, Here other intercessions may be offered. Holy God, you have swallowed up death forever through the resurrection of your Son. Make us confident that we will feast at your heavenly banquet with those who have died and are now at rest. LORD, in your mercy, Holy God, by the death and resurrection of your Son, you have granted new life, abundant renewal, and salvation. Hear our prayers for the sake of the one who has set us free, Jesus Christ our LORD. Amen. THE SHARING OF THE PEACE The peace of the LORD be with you always. And also with you. THE OFFERING WILL BE RECEIVED The Choir Anthem: (10:45am) Easter Declaration Up from the grave He arose, With a mighty triumph o er His foes; He arose a victor from the dark domain, And he lives forever with His saints to reign; He arose! He arose! Alleluia, Christ arose! He arose! He arose! Alleluia, Christ arose! 6

PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS AND OFFERTORY THE OFFERTORY PRAYER Blessed are you, O God, ruler of heaven and earth. Day by day you shower us with blessings. As you have raised us to new life in Christ, give us glad and generous hearts, ready to praise you and to respond to those in need, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and LORD. Amen. THE GREAT THANKSGIVING The LORD be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the LORD. Let us give thanks to the LORD our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise. THE PREFACE (Pastor) It is indeed right and salutary that we should at all time and in all places offer thanks and praise to you, O LORD, holy Father, through Christ our LORD. You bid your people cleanse their hearts and prepare with joy for this paschal feast. Renew our zeal in faith and life, and bring us to the fullness of grace that belongs to the children of God. And so, with the Church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: 7

In the night in which he was betrayed, our LORD Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. Amen THE LORD S PRAYER LORD, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to pray: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen Invitation to Communion Please sit THE DISTRIBUTION OF COMMUNION Communion hymns: LBW #141, 143, 149, 153, 219, 200 Stand The body and blood of our LORD Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in his grace. Amen THE BENEDICTION Almighty God, who raised our LORD Jesus from death, lift you up and restore you to wholeness. Amen. Jesus Christ, the Word of life, bless you and send you to be his witnesses. The LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The LORD lift up the light of his countenance upon you and give you peace.
