Introduction Notes: Accompanies HWP Session 1 Introduction By Felice Gerwitz 1. Please listen to the audios first, listen alone, as a family or allow the children to listen on their own. 2. Take time daily for Scripture reading each day. 3. Take time alone with God each day. Say the Lord s name quietly in your heart. 4. Try to end each day with a family prayer. Make it special. Use candles or a separate room. You can all kneel down or sit with eyes closed or hands clasped. Show the Lord reverence. 5. At the end of the day during prayer time, let the children share a Thanks to the Lord, or Answered Prayers. 6. Remember your daily walk with the Lord. Are you in a state of mind that is praising the Lord when you wake up or are you waking up with worry? Ask the Lord for help during this time. 7. Remember to pray to the Lord for help daily. Under stress we forget to pray. Put up signs if necessary as reminders. Ask family members to pray for you. 8. Pray: The Lord reveals to You what HE wants you to get out of this study. 9. Get the most benefits from these audios? a. How do you receive the most benefit from these audios?? Be in a good state of mind when we open up the Bible. 1 As the Lord for the grace to: 2 *Open your Heart 3 *Open your Mind 4 *Open your Eyes 5 6 When people are negative and bitter it is because they are hurting. If you are hurting it is hard to minister to others. An empty well can not give water. 7 10. Picture yourself as a small child in the arms of Jesus. He is there to minister to you! The Lord knows our needs, go before him as children. 11. With God there is no time! Every day is a new beginning. 12. We need to forgive ourselves, our past, and others! 13. A prayer partner or accountability partner is a wonderful addition to this study. 14. God can use us! In this study you will learn to say, Yes! to God. He will forgive us and allow us to work for Him for the Kingdom. 15. Believe God is present to us. He is real. He is alive! He is now! God has left us His Spirit to guide us each day. Love God with all your heart, your soul, and with your mind! Goals of these studies to bring you Joy by bringing you closer to God and each of your family members; I pray this for each person in the family.

Questions and Self Reflection Individual Lesson or with the entire Family 1. What do you think of the book of Proverbs? Select a Life Verse for you and your family. 2. When I read the Bible it is often a personal time between me and God. How can you live the message as God reveals it? 3. Read the Scriptures Proverbs 1:1-7. Read it one time through. Read it a second and third time to let the words sink in. 4. Ask the Lord what He wants you to learn. Listen as you read the passage. Close your eyes as I read it to you. (handout) 5. Can God speak to you? Yes! God answers prayers. What prayers will you pray during this month with expectant faith? Journal about this. (handout) 6. The Lord knows when we are sincere in our prayers. 7. Ask God how you can serve Him. Ask God and listen. He has a perfect plan, a different mission for each one of us. 8. How do you spend time and get right with God? Learn how and make a plan. 9. What does making an impact in people s lives mean to you? How can you do this with love and grace? 10. If you continue to read the Bible only to benefit yourself, can this truly become a blessing in your life? Yes or No. How can we optimize this study time to create dialogue with others or share what the Lord teaches in His Word? 11. As a family we are working toward the same goal. How does that make you feel and what are the benefits? As a family we are encouraging each other and adults need to set the example. 12. Making an impact doesn t mean to put down others, or hurt others in chastisement. Don t point out the faults of others. That isn t being helpful. We need to look inward first, set the example and pray others see and follow. 13. In order for you to receive what you crave you have to show it first. You want compassion? Show compassion. You want respect? Show respect. You want? Show this first.

Do we want to be happy to be part of our family? Are we proud to be part of our families? 21. Listen to the prayer. Close your eyes. Listen to it more than once. What did the Lord reveal to you? 22. Write your own prayer. How will the first words of the Proverbs impact you this month? 23. Pray that the Lord reveals teachings to you privately. Make sure it lines-up with the Scriptures. Bring whatever you get from God to other mature Christians, if you are a new Christian. 24. Do not waste the time with God! Practice listening to God s word for you. Either in Scripture or in your heart. 25. List your goals for this month. How do you hope to attain these and what is your focus? Homeschooling with Proverbs: Additional helpful tips for teaching Lesson One for children Read the book of Proverbs 1:1-7 with your children. Read it several times, slowly so they can let the words sink in. If your children read, let them take turns reading the book to the family. Explain why Solomon was considered the wisest man of all time. God blessed Solomon with wisdom because he was pleased that Solomon requested this instead of wealth or power. Discuss how we can please God. Discuss the purpose of Proverbs to give instruction on how to make the right decisions in life based upon the laws of God. The book teaches young and immature Christians about how to live a godly life that is pleasing to the Lord. We can all learn not matter our maturity level or our walk with the Lord. Highlight how Solomon learned from his father, King David, in the same way the children are learning from you and from God in His word. However, be sure to ask the children to practice how to ask God for encouragement. Help them with this. (We all need to practice this!) Explain the differences between the wise and foolish. A wise person is open to hearing God s teachings and that allows God to increase his knowledge. A person who is a fool can not learn wisdom because he does not want to learn. Teach children how to be reverent and have reverence for God. Use a quiet place or time to pray as a family. Focus on teaching children to prayerfully listen. Teach meditative skills such as clearing your mind, focusing on the Lord, and listening. Additional Study: Use the Ten Commandments from the book of Exodus to illustrate the importance of loving God above all else, being truthful, honoring, not stealing, cheating, etc. Give relevant examples: not stealing from the internet, downloading movies or songs illegally. Copying information that does not belong to us in books without paying for it, keeping money we find instead of trying to find the owner, etc. Make a list with the children of ways we can learn from mistakes and way to prevent others from happening.
