Merry Christmas! Just think. On a day just like this one, in what most would call an insignificant place, in very sub standard conditions, a baby was born. Little did the world know that EVERYTHING changed in that instant! God robed Himself in human form. Heaven came to Earth. Jesus was born!!! The first step of a journey that would last for a little over 33 years. This journey would culminate with THIS Jesus dying on an old rugged cross and being placed in a tomb. Oh, but, just like His birth was different, so to was His death. Why? Because 3 days later, Jesus came out of that tomb, alive forevermore!!! He ascended back to Heaven and now saves any who will put their faith in Him to be Lord and Savior of their life. One day, this same Jesus will come again to receive His children to Himself and we shall forever live with this Great Savior!!! And it all started with the birth of a baby in a barn!! We are happy to share that our church is meeting the security standards as outlined by the Blount County Sheriff s Department. Part of those standards require us to lock the sanctuary doors 10 minutes after the service begins. To accommodate this, we have now installed push bar locks on all our exit doors. Anyone can leave the sanctuary at anytime, but anyone entering after the service starts, will need to enter either at the welcome center doors, or at the northeast corner door. If you have any questions or concerns please speak to any member of our security team. Thank your for your cooperation and God bless you.

Year End Giving: As you consider end of year giving, here are two opportunities to maximize your charitable gifts that you make to Dotson Memorial Baptist Church. 1. Distribute your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) to Dotson Memorial Baptist Church and avoid ordinary income taxes. What is a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)? Upon turning 70 ½, retirement account holders are obligated to take annual distributions (withdrawals) from their accounts. These mandatory withdrawals are known as the required minimum distribution (RMD). If you do not take any distributions, or if the distributions are not large enough, you may have to pay a 50% excise tax on the required amount not distributed. Why do I have to take the RMD? When you put money into your retirement plan account on a pre-tax basis, you have not yet paid taxes on it. In addition, you also receive a tax deduction if you save in an IRA. When your account grows, it continues to grow tax-deferred. To ensure that taxes are eventually paid on this money, the IRS has determined that distributions must begin (and income taxes be paid) at age 70 ½ in a specific schedule. What is a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)? Up to $100,000 of your annual RMD from IRAs may be distributed directly to DMBC enabling you to avoid paying income taxes on that amount. This option is known as a qualified charitable distribution (QCD). The QCD applies to traditional, rollover and Roth IRAs. SEP and Simple IRAs also qualify (as long as you are no longer actively receiving employer
Reserve Your Spring Getaway Now: A week at the upscale Gatlinburg Town Square Resort, near downtown, with two bedroom, living room, and kitchen condo accommodations sleeping up to six (6), starting on March 29, 2019. Here s an interesting opportunity brought to you from our Finance Committee: A number of years ago (over 10), a church member graciously contributed their rights to this Timeshare arrangement. And while it was accepted in good faith by church authorities at the time, the committee no longer considers it consistent with our view of good financial stewardship for the church. Therefore, we have two options available to the family (or families) who would like to explore this opportunity: 1. The family who wishes to purchase the ownership interest would simply work with the committee to assume the financial obligation and privileges going forward. We have contacted a specialty law firm who deals with timeshare transfers and they will affect the transaction for a $400 fee for services and $50 to the timeshare company (Exploria Resorts) for changing their records. The purchaser would then be responsible for all future assessments and have all privileges accorded by the timeshare including the use of the unit for the 13th week of each year. The most recent annual assessment was for $715 and would not be billed again until October, 2019. It is also possible for the new owner to arrange timeshare swaps through the national RCI company should that be desired. Additional information on the timeshare unit is available on the Exploria Resorts website (exploriaresorts.com). It should be noted that a normal reservation at the Gatlinburg Town Square Resort for the same type unit and time frame currently costs $1300-$1500 for the week. 2. If we have no one interested in purchasing the timeshare by January 15, then we will help an interested family take advantage of the vacation rental accommodation for the week for the cost of the annual assessment of $715. An additional refundable $150 security deposit is required at registration at the Resort. It should make for an exciting and convenient getaway for the Spring. Maybe even something to consider as a family gift for Christmas Any interested family may contact Ben Manley, a committee member who has agreed to assist with questions, at 804-833-7190
