PARISH NEWS SAVE THE DATE: Sunday, December 3 at 3PM Celebrate the season with this magnificent concert, featuring arrangements on traditional Christmas carols for full choir, piano, organ, saxophone, and much more. Led by St. Barnabas Pennies for Patients Committee chairperson Kristi Festa and pianist/organist Daniel Ficarri, this concert benefits the Pennies for Patients campaign, a drive to collect 3 million pennies to support the patients of St. Barnabas Health System. Donations gladly accepted at the door. Reception to immediate follow in Bovard Hall. PANCAKE BREAKFAST The parish s Respect Life Group will be holding its annual Pancake Breakfast to support Pre-born Babies after all Masses on Sunday, December 2. We will be sending a bus from SJN to join in the March for Life on January 22, 2013. The Pancake Breakfast funds will be used to defray the cost so that everyone interested in attending the March will have the opportunity to do so. THANK YOU Thank you for donating to the Retirement Fund of Religious. A sister from Pennsylvania writes, In our prayers, all the sisters remember in a special way the faithful of the dioceses who support the Retirement Fund collection. We realize that their sacrifices and generosity have made this assistance possible. May God reward them. ANOINTING OF THE SICK Anyone in need of the power of the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is invited to come to the 9 AM Mass on Sat. Dec. 1. This sacrament offers strength to us in body, mind or spirit. If you are in need of this sacrament immediately, please call Fr. Al to make arrangements. ST. JOHN NEUMANN PENANCE SERVICE MONDAY, DEC. 10 @ 7 PM SHARING TREE PROJECT Please select tags from the Sharing Tree with individual s names and their gift wishes for Christmas. We are helping agencies this year along with individual families. Once gifts are wrapped, please affix the tag or a facsimile SECURELY to each gift. The gifts must be brought to church NO LATER THAN 12:30 PM ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16. If you have any questions, please call the Parish Office at ext. 10. SPIRITUAL ADVENT RESOURCES Next Sunday marks the beginning of Advent. Our lobby table has many good booklets and children's activities to help you keep the season holy. Some calendars and wreaths aren't here yet so check the table again next week for more. All of these materials help us keep our eyes on the Lord and our hearts open for the Lord to be born in us. Maybe your college kids or grandkids would appreciate something too. INVITE THE FAMILY Bring all the family on Friday night, Nov 30 from 6:30 to 8 as we begin the Advent season with our very own LIGHT UP night. Between story and song and crafts and games we'll remember the REASON for the season. Great time to make a memory and enjoy some new friends and fun. Sign up now by calling the Rel Ed Office. Space is limited. YEAR OF FAITH Since Oct 11 our church has been commemorating this Year of Faith. Pope Benedict XVI prays that we will use it as a special time to better know and spread the message of God's love shown in Jesus to the world. To do this we must all draw closer to Jesus. The church calls this drawing closer to Jesus "conversion" and it means changing direction. There are lots of ways we can do this. The sacrament of reconciliation helps us on the way. This sacrament is available to us every Saturday after the 9am Mass and especially on Dec 10 when we celebrate our Advent Penance Service. Might be good Christmas preparation too. SCRIPTURE STUDY Begin the new liturgical year of Cycle C with a time of reflection and study of the Sunday Scriptures for the first Sunday of Advent. Join the group of adults who meet on Thursday morn from 9:45-11:30 to share the culture and history of Jesus' time. This sharing helps us look at the scriptures in a deeper way and see the power of their meaning in our lives too. Coffee is on and the door is open. Start the year with us. BOOK OF LIFE We remember our dear departed loved ones in a special way during the month of November To commemorate this time we have a Book of Life in the narthex where you can add the name of someone who has died. This book will be retired on Nov. 30 but we will continue to remember your loved ones in prayer at each Mass celebrated here. Please call Barb Stokes if you are interested in getting together for prayer and support before the Christmas holiday.

SACRAMENTAL WE WELCOME AND ACCEPT YOU WITH ALL OUR PRAYER AND SUPPORT Last Sunday at the 11:30 Mass, we acknowleged some wonderful people into our parish community. All of them are looking at our church and considering this community as the way that will help them follow the Lord. What an awesome compliment and challenge to all of us. Please hold Michael Schwartz, Marlese Robinson, Nilly & Shuang Ran Yeung, Will & Yu Ling Yeung, James & Libby Earley, Connor & Jack Murphy, Mark Brunda and Alexandra (Sasha) Balko) in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to study the scriptures and traditions of the Catholic Church. Now they begin a period of the RCIA/RCIC called the Catechumenate. Some of them hope to be baptized at Easter and are now called Catechumens. Some are already baptized in another faith tradition and we now call them Candidates for full initiation in our church. They are amazing signs to all of us for they have answered God's call to come and follow. God calls all of us to welcome and accept them in this faith journey. Hold them in prayer and encourage them with your friendship. Sunday Missals Many people in the parish use the Sunday Missal to prepare for the Sunday readings.
