A Joyful Noise From Our Pastor Fairview Focus November 2018 Four More Reasons You Should Invite People to Church Inviting someone to church should be the easiest thing in the world. Yet there are so many Christians who never invite their coworkers, neighbors and friends to experience a weekly worship service. Continuing from last month s newsletter, here are four more reasons we should be inviting people to church. 1. They will most likely come! One Barna study showed that up to 96% of the unchurched are at least somewhat likely to attend church if they are invited. When a personal invitation is given, most people respond positively. Instead of an impersonal: Hey, do you want to come to church Sunday? Try, I d love for you to visit my church with me. It would mean a lot to me. Would you be open to coming this Sunday or next? We can go out to lunch afterwards. Do you see the genuine, personal investment in the second question? 2. You may be the difference maker in their life. When you don t invite you think you re playing it safe. But you may be missing out on one of life s most incredible opportunities playing a role in someone s salvation and life transformation. There s nothing more exciting than being used by God to introduce someone to Jesus. 3. You are being obedient to God s Word. Jesus said, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled (Lk 14:23). God blesses obedience. That is why I think that most people are open to an invitation to church. God blesses your obedience by giving them a heart to say yes. 4. You will energize your church. When long time members see new faces in church there is a sense of excitement that comes over them. Constantly seeing new people in the pews increases morale in the church body. It encourages others to invite their friends, coworkers, and neighbors to church. We are quickly coming upon the holiday season. It is a great time to invite people to church. Here is your challenge for this month - invite at least one person to church. SAVE THE DATE! Hark! B Y W Youth Ministry Children s Ministry Happy Fall Y'all, from the preschool/children's ministry department! The fall session of is going smoothly as we continue to share stories from the Bible that children can learn from and be able to apply throughout their life. We enjoyed a great time at our fall festival. It was so good seeing children from our church and their families, as well as families from our community. Thank you so much to all those who came out from our church and served together during the time. This is a great way to spend time together and also to get to know those in our community better. The event with the chalk artist will have to be rescheduled in November due to a last minute conflict with the chalk artist's schedule. Toddlers will be preparing a small Christmas performance during their Sunday School time in November. Children ages 3 through 6th grade will also be preparing a Christmas skit and song. These will be performed on December 15th and 16th before the choir's musical/play. I would like to encourage parents to use teachable moments in everyday life with your children. Pray and ask God to help you be aware of those times when you can use everyday events and/or problems to teach your children biblical lessons Thank you for your support of our children's program. Please pray for us as we find ways to build biblical foundations in the lives of our children, and as we reach out to those in our community. Also, pray for families as they try to raise their children in Christian homes, as well as extended family and their influence in their lives. Andrea Poindexter Preschool/Children's Minister We have really enjoyed getting the youth studies going again and getting reconnected on a weekly basis with these teens! On October 7, we began a 6-week study by J.D. Greear called Stop Asking Jesus Into Your Heart which tackles the most important question there is... how do I know for sure that I m saved? Each Sunday evening, we have been having fun, relationship-building activities to begin each lesson, watching a short video by J.D. Greear in which he explains scripture and gives teen-relatable examples, digging into the scripture, asking them life-application questions, challenging them to share Jesus with their peers, and praying for and with them! It s been wonderful so far, and we ve really felt the Holy Spirit moving and guiding us each Sunday evening! We re really trying to encourage all of the youth/parents of youth to be present every time they re able to. We ve averaged about 8 teens every Sunday night. This has been a good number and has allowed for some great lessons, but please keep praying for more and more to have that desire and come! Learning about Jesus, being in God s Word, and being around other believers is more important and meaningful than anything they could ever learn in school or any better reason they may think they have for not coming! Please PRAY that these teens develop a deep desire that goes beyond just calling themselves Christian...a desire that truly wants to grow in their faith and make more disciples! Caleb, Beth Cosby & Daniel White The BYW met in October at the home of Archer Perkins. Many thanks to Archer for hosting. We heard from Beth Cosby about a possible opportunity to support a missionary in Turkey. We also agreed to fund a local group of students who want to shop for Samaritan's Purse boxes. We discussed options for our Christmas outreach. Go ahead and mark your calendars for our annual Ladies' Conference on February 23rd at 6:00! Our next meeting is on Tuesday, November 13 at in the Fellowship Hall. Please join us! Holly Whitaker

Prayer Quilt Experiencing God Everyday W M U The Lottie Moon week of prayer for international missions is quickly approaching. The week of prayer is December 2-9. We will have our March to the Manger on December 9th. Our goal this year is $5000. This goal is slightly higher than years past, but reachable. Our missionaries are so valuable to spreading the Gospel. The Lord uses us through our giving and prayers to support them and help spread the Gospel. Also, the Baptist Women s World Day of Prayer is Monday, November 5th. Please spend time praying throughout the day for our nation and the world. Remember, there is power in prayer! Our next meeting will be Sunday, November 11 immediately following worship. Please join us. Jennifer White Pastor Nale recently reminded us that the praying church has power on days that are sweet and days that are sour Yes, the church advances on its knees as God s will we seek to please Prayer has a reason, responsibility, and result too and it should be a part of our daily life and all that we do As we approach Thanksgiving, our November holiday, may we be thankful for our Savior and Lord daily as we pray Let s pray for each other and the lost too, for those who are hurting, and for those their faith they need to renew God is good-there s no doubt about that, and may the Holy Spirit remind us of where Jesus sat May we never be ashamed of the Gospel and reflect it in our daily lives, and know that through our Savior and Lord, our faith in Him survives And may God continue to bless us everyone as we continue to serve His only begotten Son The Kingdom Prayer Coordinators want to pray for you so please let us know what we can do Two prayer quilt workshops were held during the month of October: one on October 8 with 11 participants and one on October 29 with a devotional about Aspiring to be God s Butterflies. Our largest number of lap quilts to-date were circulated during the October 7 Worship Service during intercessory prayer time on behalf of 14 designated recipients. Mark your calendars, and please join us on November 19 for our last scheduled prayer quilt workshop of 2018. Ministry participants will meet for a time of Christmas fellowship on December 3. Read I Thessalonians 5:18. May we embrace all the days of November (not just Thanksgiving Day) the deep-seated joy of thanksgiving..in all things. It is necessary, in order to grow stronger in faith, that one develops a heart of gratitude. A thankful heart pleases God; let s give thanks! Donna Dobbins

On October 7th, 9 Baby Blankets and 16 Lap Blankets were dedicated and prayed over by the FBC congregation. The following week, the baby blankets were delivered to The Legacy Center and the lap blankets to the Woltz Hospice Home. They are always delighted and so appreciative to receive these. For the months of October and November we are working on "Scrappy" blankets. These are made of the left overs of yarn. This is exciting because almost every scrap of yarn is re-purposed and used, nothing goes to waste. It is a challenge to work these because you have put colors together and plan a design that will use the amounts of yarn you have to work with. In the end, these blankets turn out just as beautiful as all the other new yarn ones we make. Thank you, Prayer Shawl Ministry members for all you do! Next meetings are Nov. 6th & 20th at 7PM in the Adult I Sunday School Classroom. Anyone is invited to join us. Kathleen Edmonds Missions Outreach Prayer Shawl In a recent newsletter from the North Carolina Baptist there was a lead article on calling the church to pray for unreached people groups. As Caleb and Beth Cosby came back and shared about their mission trip experience and the need for reaching the unreached People Group in Istanbul, Turkey I felt it would be good to share some of the inserts from that article on how Fairview could pray specifically for this People Group. There are 7,084 unreached People Groups consisting of 4.4 billion people in the world. This unreached People Group is defined by having a percentage of evangelical Christians of less than 2%. Pray for Jesse and Rachel Hendricks and Anna Marie Aguilar who are currently serving full time in the Istanbul area. Below are the inserts from the North Carolina Baptist article. "In the article, When We Pray, God Works that International Mission Board President David Platt wrote for the 2017 week of prayer for international missions, he advises that prayer isn t just a rushed or mechanical exercise. God has ordained our prayer as a means to accomplish His purpose in the world," Platt wrote. "We've got to be aware that our praying for boldness for missionaries is actually going to affect whether or not they have boldness. God ordained it that way. When we pray, God works. When we pray, God does indeed work. Praying is a way that every single Christian can be involved in missions. Here are a few ways your church can pray for the nations right here in North America and around the world. Discern how to pray with focus Your whole church can become involved in praying for the nations. Promote a prayer emphasis through small groups, Sunday School classes and members in corporate worship. You can even ask families to become involved by praying at home for people groups. Here is a list of prayer requests that can be used with any people group. Pray that unreached peoples will hear and accept the gospel. Pray for protection for those who accept Christ. Pray for freedom from persecution. Pray for Scriptures to be translated into their heart language. Pray for their physical and spiritual needs. Pray for new ways to see and hear the gospel. Pray for government leaders involved with your people group. Southern Baptist have long been known as Great Commission people. Shouldn t prayer for the nations be part of our daily lives and our corporate worship? While you may not see quick results of prayers you offer, remember this: Your prayers do not lack influence or impact. When we pray, God works! Your faithful prayers will help change the world.
