MARK 3:25 Do your parish ministries complement each other or do they compete against each other? Is your parish one Body of Christ or a bunch of little, separate ministries controlled by human ego? The goal of all parish ministries is to bring people to Christ. All of our parish work should be for the glory of God s name, not our own name. Please pray for the repose of the soul of: Shirley Ann Edwards, sister of Carol Gilley May her soul rest in our Lord s eternal embrace. A talk on Fatima and Divine Mercy will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018, 8:45am at the St Cletus Parish Chapel. The guest speaker will be Mr. Dan Burke with the event hosted by the St Cletus Legion of Mary. The Respect Life Apostolate Give your dad a treat for Father s Day. The Respect Life Apostolate will be selling cookies prepared by the Cookie Lady, Barb Bockwoldt. The cookies are $1.00 for two cookies. The Remembrance Book will also be available to write the names of deceased loved ones. Thank you dads for all you do for your families and our parish. Today, Jesus looking around those seated in the circle said, Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother. Through your almsgiving you are indeed doing the will of God and your gift placed in the St. Vincent de Paul poor box (located at the rear of the church in the main aisle) indeed brings Christ s love and compassion to the poor. ST. CLETUS SPIRIT MASS ON SEPT. 8 With our Washers Tournament and Parish Picnic now behind us, the next big social event on our calendar will be our Spirit Mass and Festival on Saturday, Sept. 8 (formerly Mass on the Grass). If you are interested in helping to plan it, please contact Fr Jim Benz at jbenz@saintcletus.org or (636) 946-6327, ext. 1711, ASAP. Thanks! EUCHARISTIC ADORATION The soul hungers for God, and nothing but God can satiate it. Therefore He came to dwell on earth and assumed a Body in order that this Body might become the Food of our souls. St. John Vianney Good friends find pleasure in one another s company. Let us know pleasure in the company of our best friend, a friend who can do everything for us, a friend who loves us beyond measure. Here in the Blessed Sacrament we can talk to him straight from the heart. St Alphonsus de Liguori Many people nowadays say, I wish I could see his shape, his appearance, his clothes, his sandal. Only look! You see Him! You touch Him! You eat Him! St John Chrysostom COME AND SIT WITH JESUS! IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BECOME AN ADORER PLEASE CALL JENNIFER @ 636-940-9858 OR JAN 636-947-4654. IF YOU WOULD LIKE ONE OF THESE HOURS: TUESDAY 2AM, WEDNESDAY 11AM & 4AM AND FRIDAY 2AM GIVE US A CALL. THANK YOU!

WELCOME ABOARD, DEACON WALT LABOZZETTA! Many of you will remember Walt La- Bozzetta and his wife, Linda. They were long-time parishioners here at St. Cletus, but then, as he progressed farther along in his preparation for the Permanent Diaconate, Acolyte Walt was assigned to Holy Spirit Parish in Maryland Heights, serving there for another four years after being ordained as Deacon Walt. He was happy serving the people of Holy Spirit, but the distance of travelling from St. Charles to Maryland Heights inhibited the amount of time he could serve. For the past several years, Holy Spirit has had a couple of its own parishioners progressing through the Permanent Diaconate program who then were ordained last Saturday. The Office of the Diaconate asked me if we would be wiling to accept Deacon Walt here at St. Cletus serving along with Deacon Frank Olmsted and Deacon Mark McCarthy, and I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically agreed. His assignment becomes effective on June 25 so look for Deacon Walt and Linda to join us soon. DIALOGUE VS. DEBATE: When I was on the trip to Sorrento back in March, there was a man who, at all the Masses we celebrated, would voice the petition that we may learn to disagree without becoming disagreeable. Several times I complimented for such a great, timely, and necessary insight and desire. The question, though, is how can we get beyond the ever-present temptation to take our disagreements too far and becoming disagreeable? Well, I think that I have found the answer to this question. One of our parishioners forwarded to me an email entitled Reflections from the White House Jesuit Retreat. Here it is; please read it carefully and reflectively: Continuing our theme of reconciliation as a priority in all Jesuit ministries, we consider a fundamental characteristic of the Ignatian ministry of reconciliation with other human beings: the priority of dialogue over debate. Recall Ignatius' directions to the Jesuits summoned as theological consultors at the Council of Trent, that they engage in dialogue rather than debate, as well as Ignatius' "Presupposition" to the Spiritual Exercises [22] "...Every good Christian adopts a more positive acceptance of someone's statement rather than a rejection of it out of hand. And so a favorable interpretation...should always be given to the other's statement, and confusions should be cleared up with Christian understanding." We might examine ourselves this week on how we are called to the ministry of dialogue rather than debate at home, at work, in community, in society at large as part of the fruits of our ongoing involvement in Ignatius's Spiritual Exercises at White House Jesuit Retreat. Dialogue vs. Debate Dialogue is collaborative: two or more sides work together toward common understanding. Debate is oppositional: two sides oppose each other and attempt to prove each other wrong. In dialogue, finding common ground is the goal. In debate, winning is the goal. In dialogue, one listens to the other side(s) in order to understand, find meaning and find agreement. In debate, one listens to the other side in order to find flaws and to counter its arguments. Dialogue enlarges and possibly changes a participants point of view. Debate affirms a participant's own point of view. Dialogue reveals assumptions for re-evaluation. Debate defends assumptions as truth. Dialogue causes introspection on ones own position. Debate causes critique of the other position. Dialogue opens the possibility of reaching a better solution than any of the original solutions. Debate defends one's own positions as the best solution and excludes other solutions. Dialogue creates an open-minded attitude: an openness to being wrong and an openness to change. Debate creates a close-minded attitude, a determination to be right. In dialogue, one submits ones best thinking, knowing that other people's reflections will help improve it rather than destroy it. In debate, one submits one's best thinking and defends it against challenge to show that it is right. Dialogue calls for temporarily suspending one's beliefs. Debate calls for investing wholeheartedly in one's beliefs. In dialogue, one searches for basic agreements. In debate, one searches for glaring differences. In dialogue one searches for strengths in the other positions. In debate one searches for flaws and weaknesses in the other position. Dialogue involves a real concern for the other person and seeks to not alienate or offend. Debate involves a countering of the other position without focusing on feelings or relationship and often belittles or deprecates the other person. Dialogue assumes that many people have pieces of the answer and that together they can put them into a workable solution. Debate assumes that there is a right answer and that someone has it. Dialogue remains open-ended. o Debate implies a conclusion.

A GOLDEN FRONTIER TRIP TO NEW ORLEANS AND CAJUN COUNTRY WITH FR. JIM BENZ My priest-friend Father Dennis Port and I are planning to travel with Golden Frontier (more formally called Catholic Shrine Pilgrimage ) this September 8-14 to New Orleans and surrounding areas. Golden Frontier s website www.goldenfrontier.org describes this trip as follows: New Orleans and Cajun Country are two centers on the seven-day trip via coach. Two nights and days in New Orleans shows the heart of Creole country. Creole food, and a history that shaped westward expansion are all parts of one of the most colorful cities in America. We ll spend two nights in this beautiful city. Lafayette is the heart of Acadiana and Cajun Country. Our visits here begin from a time when the Acadians arrived from present day Canada with their Catholic faith and French heritage. Today the heritage lives on through their music and lifestyle. Two nights each in New Orleans and Lafayette, plus Vicksburg, entrance fees, all meals, except two lunches are included. One of the places that Father Port and I plan to visit in New Orleans in our free time is the World War 2 Museum, described as New Orleans #1 attraction. You can learn at Its website: www.nationalww2museum.org. What a truly impressive place about a truly impressive undertaking: the US effort in helping to win the Second World War! If you are interested, I have some brochures about this trip, or you can call Golden Frontier at (618) 234-1445. I am sure that we will have a great time! (This museum s website is quite truly impressive itself!) THANK YOU FROM ST DOROTHY SOCIETY We wish to thank all the parishioners and guests who visited our plant booth at the picnic and purchased some of our beautiful plants. A special thanks to Mike Tremmel, Daniel s Nursery and Parkview Gardens for their donations. Also thanks to all our parish gardeners who donated plants from their home gardens and various garden items. These donations provided the wonderful variety that we could offer at our picnic plant booth. Finally, thanks to our St. Dorothy Society members who spent several weeks prior on preparations and worked many hours meeting people and matching the right plant to each visitor. The booth was a big success in every way! Jeanie and Jim McCoy St. Patrick Center is in need of flip flops in all women's sizes for the women in the agency's night program. Flip flop donations can be dropped off at St. Patrick Center's donation dock on Hadley Street (one block east of Tucker Blvd, 63101) Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm. Contact Katie Joseph at 314-802- 1976 or kjoseph@stpatrickcenter.org with questions.
