My Dear Friends in Christ, The days are at their shortest. The weather is getting colder. We are stressed because we are amidst the impossibilities of decorating, visiting, baking, buying, paying, buying more, paying even more, and keepings fingers crossed that the snow doesn t fall. And yet, here on this third Sunday of Advent, the message is made abundantly clear by our readings: Rejoice! From Zephaniah: Shout for joy, O daughter Zion! Sing joyfully, O Israel! From Saint Paul: Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice! From the Psalmist: Cry out with joy and gladness: for among you is the great and Holy One of Israel. About John the Baptist: Exhorting them in many other ways, he preached good news to the people. Despite all of the pushes and pulls and claims on our time, we hear clearly from the Lord that this is a day of rejoicing. We rejoice because the Lord is indeed near and getting closer. Let us prepare for Christmas with joy in our hearts: this joy is but a small preview of the true joy we will receive in greeting Christ once again! Not feeling joyful? Then feel mercy! Join us this Monday, December 17 th for Reconciliation. Confessions will be heard from 4:00 pm 7:00 pm. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed for personal prayer as well. At 7:00 pm, we will have an Advent Penance Service with the opportunity for individual confessions as well. Yours in Christ, Advent is a time of preparation!
