Dear Parishioners, Today we celebrate Catechetical Sunday! We highlight the importance of the teaching ministry in our Parish as all our catechists renew their dedication to this essential work and receive a blessing. To celebrate this occasion you are all invited this morning to our annual Pancake Breakfast. Thanks to all our volunteers who make this day so beautiful for our Parish.** Of course the Gospel is most appropriate for today. We are all laborers in the Vineyard of the Lord. May the Lord continues to bless all our efforts to bring about his great Kingdom! By the way, thanks to all who are making extra efforts to arrive at Mass on time, and who stay until the final hymn! I noticed a nice improvement last week. Blessings to you all. Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family... 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ In today s Gospel, the vineyard owner says, I am free to do as I please with my money, am I not? We are likewise free. Is a generous return to the Lord in thanksgiving for His many blessings among the choices we have made? Matthew 20:15 Devotedly yours in the Lord, Father Gabe (** P.S. I hope you enjoy Pastors Plaza even though officially it won't be dedicated until October.) Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family... This Week ~ September 20th and 21st Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time Reflections on Today s Readings FOCUS: Let us seek the Lord so we may receive the many good gifts He wishes to lavish upon us. The first reading offers a beautiful admonition: Seek the Lord while He may be found, call on Him while He is still near. Some reasons why it is important to do this is because God is good and loving, gracious and merciful, and offers us peace and salvation. Let us seek the Lord so that we may receive God s good gifts. LITURGY OF THE WORD: The first reading exhorts us to seek the Lord while He may be found. The reading from Philippians reminds us to conduct ourselves in a way that is worthy of the Gospel of Christ. In the Gospel, Jesus tells a parable about a landowner hiring laborers to work in his vineyard. Its lesson sit hat the first shall be last and the last shall be first. Second Reading Consider others as better than yourselves; look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others (Philippians 2:1-11 [1-5]). KNOWING INTERNET LINGO CAN HELP PARENTS SAFEGUARD CHILDREN Online chat rooms, instant messaging systems, and even cell phones equipped to send text messages are environments rich in abbreviations, acronyms, and other shorthand that help increase the speed of communication. Parents need to become aware of some of the common lingo that is used in these environments. Some of these terms may be found to be vulgar, degrading, or otherwise offensive. However, parents and educators need to have a level of understanding of the dangers that face our children. Fact of Life Planned Parenthood Abortion Clinic: We Cannot Cooperate With Evil Published 1/27/14 in the Clarion Herald by Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond In 2011, Planned Parenthood performed over 330,00 abortions across the U.S., representing over 1/3 of our nation s abortions every year....the new facility about to open in New Orleans could perform upwards of 30 abortions per day. It has been the consistent teaching of the Catholic Church since the first century that abortion is a grave evil. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states in paragraph 2270 that: Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a personamong which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life. We cannot be silent in view of the grave injustice presented by the abortions that will be performed at the proposed Planned Parenthood facility. The archdiocese is obliged to remind every person and organization involved in the acquisition, preparation and construction of this or any abortion facility that they are cooperating with the evil that will take place there. There is no justification, including economic hardship that will make direct or indirect relationship with Planned Parenthood, or any abortion provider, acceptable.
