Happy New Year Everyone, Every new year, every new day begins with the belief and the hope that it will be better than the last. This year like many years, my prayer is for peace, peace in a world that seems determined to destroy itself, peace for our country that we can set aside our differences and come together as one united nation, peace for us as we look to set aside our fear of the unknown and open our hearts to welcome those who come seeking shelter. People of God, I know that our country has seen a lot of destruction through fires and hurricanes this past year, trade wars bring uncertainty about the future and where there is uncertainty; fear grows, people get hurt, and we are left scarred by the memories. But we are a people of God and as such we live with the knowledge that our future has already been taken care of by a loving and forgiving God, a God who keeps his promises and will not leave us alone so knowing that and believing that we can afford to look past our fears and reach out our hands in order to help and welcome. I pray for peace and strength be given to us so that we can open our eyes and see that within each new person we meet there is much that is similar to us that their stories, hopes and fears have much in common with our lives. The differences can become opportunities to learn from each other and discover new things that enrich our lives. As we learn from each other we can also celebrate that even though we are each made in the image of God, we are also uniquely different from each other, we are our own person perfectly made and perfectly loved by God. I leave you with this final thought that we relearn every Christmas. God comes to us in unexpected places through unexpected people. Nobody thought that God would come to them as a baby born to a small, poor, unknown family far from home, who had to rely on the kindness of strangers for hospitality. Yet that is exactly what happened. God continues to show up in our lives when we least expect it, in places where we aren t looking for him, and through the unlikeliest of people. May the Peace of God guide you through the New Year. Pastor Chris
