Zastrow, Pastor Laura Nichols, Organist ebenezerlutheran@hotmail.com ebenezerlutheranchurch.wordpress.com FUNERAL SERVICE January 19, 2016 Edna Katherine Marie Deppermann June 4, 1919 January 15, 2016 Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed. Isaiah 54:10 (Edna s Confirmation Verse) PRELUDE OPENING HYMN What a Friend We Have in Jesus LW 516 Pastor (P): In the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit. Congregation (C): Amen P: O Lord, open Thou my lips. C: And My mouth shall show forth Thy Praise. P: We brought nothing into this world and it s certain that we shall carry nothing out. C: The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away:

Blessed be the name of the Lord. P: O death, where is thy sting! O grave, where is thy victory. C: Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! C: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be forever and ever. Amen. PSALM 23 & Psalm 46 COLLECT P: The Lord be with you. C: And with your Spirit. P: Let us pray to the Lord. O God of grace and mercy, we give thanks for your loving-kindness to Edna, having finished her course in faith, and now rests from her labors. Grant that we also may be faithful to death and receive the crown of eternal life; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. OLD TESTAMENT READING Lamentations 3:22-33 (His Compassions Never Fail) P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. GRADUAL (Psalm 121) I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, 2

who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. HYMN I m but a Stranger Here LW 515 EPISTLE Revelation 21:1-7 (A New Heaven and Earth) P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. HOLY GOSPEL Matthew 5:1-12 (Blessed) P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to You, O Christ. SERMON HYMN "Asleep in Jesus! Blessed Sleep" 3

1. Asleep, in Jesus! Blessed sleep, From which none ever wakes to weep; A calm and undisturbed repose, Unbroken by the last of foes. 2. Asleep in Jesus! Oh, how sweet To be for such a slumber meet, With holy confidence to sing That death has lost his venomed sting! 3. Asleep in Jesus! Peaceful rest, Whose waking is supremely blest No fear, no woe, shall dim that hour That manifests the Savior's power. 4. Asleep In Jesus! Oh, for me May such a blissful refuge be! Securely shall my ashes lie And wait the summons from on high. SERMON The Bride Groom Comes John 2:1-11 P: God has made us his people through our Baptism into Christ. Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith with all the saints. I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, Born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from thence 4

He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, The Holy Christian Church, The Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, The resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen PRAYER O God, the Father of compassion, shower Your mercies on all who mourn the death of our departed sister, Edna. May these mercies be new each day to sooth the pain of each day as we await the heavenly reunion with Jesus Christ and this loved one. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. O God the Son, dearest Jesus, our Good Shepherd, make Your rod and staff of comfort known to those who mourn. May Your goodness and love revealed in Your Word and Sacraments be known in their daily lives. Guide them in Your paths of righteousness as they await the heavenly reunion with Jesus Christ and this loved one. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. O God the Holy Spirit, show us the mountain of hope---the mountain of the cross of Christ. Strengthen our faith with Your Word and Sacraments that we may join those who have overcome all tribulations and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Keep us faithful as we await the heavenly reunion with Jesus Christ and this loved one. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Amen. 5

Lord, remember us in Your kingdom, and teach us to pray: LORD S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. HYMN How Great Thou Art LW 519 THE BENEDICTION P: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up his countenance on you and give you peace. C: Amen. CLOSING HYMN I Know My Redeemer Lives LW 264 I know that my Redeemer lives! What comfort this sweet sentence gives! He lives, he lives, who once was dead; He lives, my ever living head! He lives triumphant from the grave; He lives eternally to save; 6

He lives exalted, throned above; He lives to rule his Church in love. Edna Katherine Marie Deppermann Edna Katherine Marie Deppermann, 96, of New Haven, Missouri, passed away from this veil of tears to eternal rest on Friday, January 15, at the New Haven Care Center. Edna was born in rural New Haven on June 4, 1919 to the late Henry & Lena (Karolina) [nee Schroeder] Deppermann. She was baptized at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, on June 22, 1919 and confirmed her Baptismal vows at Ebenezer by the Rite of Confirmation on April 14, 1935. She was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Port Hudson, Missouri. She worked at Langenberg Hat Factory and she also volunteered at the New Haven Care Center and at the New Haven Senior Center. Edna sewed her own clothes and made many quilts and hemmed many more for other quilters. Edna also did other fancy work. Edna is survived by a cousin Esther Hoemann of Leslie, Missouri and by a special friend Rev. William Zastrow. She is preceded in death by her parents. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our sister, Edna. Pastor, Margaret and Esther would like to invite Edna s dear friends for fellowship and dinner immediately after committal service at our church cemetery. 7
