The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. 1. Asleep, in Jesus! Blessed sleep, From which none ever wakes to weep; A calm and undisturbed repose, Unbroken by the last of foes. 2. Asleep in Jesus! Oh, how sweet To be for such a slumber meet, With holy confidence to sing That death has lost his venomed sting! 3. Asleep in Jesus! Peaceful rest, Whose waking is supremely blest No fear, no woe, shall dim that hour That manifests the Savior's power. 4. Asleep In Jesus! Oh, for me May such a blissful refuge be! Securely shall my ashes lie And wait the summons from on high. SERMON The Bride Groom Comes John 2:1-11 P: God has made us his people through our Baptism into Christ. Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith with all the saints. I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, Born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from thence 4
He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, The Holy Christian Church, The Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, The resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen PRAYER O God, the Father of compassion, shower Your mercies on all who mourn the death of our departed sister, Edna. May these mercies be new each day to sooth the pain of each day as we await the heavenly reunion with Jesus Christ and this loved one. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. O God the Son, dearest Jesus, our Good Shepherd, make Your rod and staff of comfort known to those who mourn. May Your goodness and love revealed in Your Word and Sacraments be known in their daily lives. Guide them in Your paths of righteousness as they await the heavenly reunion with Jesus Christ and this loved one. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. O God the Holy Spirit, show us the mountain of hope---the mountain of the cross of Christ. Strengthen our faith with Your Word and Sacraments that we may join those who have overcome all tribulations and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Keep us faithful as we await the heavenly reunion with Jesus Christ and this loved one. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Amen. 5
Lord, remember us in Your kingdom, and teach us to pray: LORD S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. HYMN How Great Thou Art LW 519 THE BENEDICTION P: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up his countenance on you and give you peace. C: Amen. CLOSING HYMN I Know My Redeemer Lives LW 264 I know that my Redeemer lives! What comfort this sweet sentence gives! He lives, he lives, who once was dead; He lives, my ever living head! He lives triumphant from the grave; He lives eternally to save; 6
He lives exalted, throned above; He lives to rule his Church in love.
