Radisson begins class by informing students that they will need to disavow, in writing, the existence of God on that fi rst day, or face a failing grade. As other students in the class begin scribbling the words God Is Dead on pieces of paper as instructed, Josh fi nds himself at a crossroads, having to choose between his faith and his future. GOD S NOT DEAD weaves together multiple stories of faith, doubt and disbelief, culminating in a dramatic call to action. The film will educate, entertain, and inspire moviegoers to explore what they really believe about God, igniting important conversations and life-changing decisions. Join us for a special night with the message of faith and invite your friends to come with you.
Page 2 Seeds of the Spirit Dear LCM Family Members, In late August, an Internet announcement identifi ed a new book by Kerry and Chris Shook entitled Be The Message with the sub-title Taking Your Faith Beyond Words To A Life Of Action. As we conclude each service with the words On a mission with a message from the Master, I decided that this would be a good book to read on vacation. So far I have read about 1/3 of the book, and have found it challenging and uplifting. There is one section I have read that I have chosen to summarize and share with you this month It is entitled; Putting Two And Two (And Two) Together Jesus told His disciples, Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. (John 14:19-20) What a powerful statement that is. Jesus says, I am in you. Paul in his letter to the Colossians (1:27) doesn t say Christ and you, he says Christ in you. Through Scripture we hear the Word that says His Spirit lives in you. Romans 8:11. We are built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit (Ephesians 2:22), and The Word of God lives in you (1 John 2:14). Putting this together is basic as simple as two plus two. Jesus is the Word The Word is the Gospel But then the third two is added. Jesus is the Word The Word is the Gospel The word lives is you Translation You are the Gospel. Wow! Amazing! And suddenly a verse from 2 Corinthians means so much more. You are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts (2 Corinthians 3:3). As we journey toward being the message, we need to prepare ourselves to understand the Gospel in a new way, not just a group of books in the Bible, but as the life of Jesus that we carry in us to the people around us. As we do that preparation, we will discover Gospel is what we carry into the world. The Gospel is who we are, what we do, and how we show Jesus to the world. People may doubt what we say, but they will always believe what we do. Pastor Chuck Lewis Cass
Seeds of the Spirit Page 3 Monday Night Bible Study 7:00 PM Beginning Monday, October 13 Isaiah Trusting God in Troubled Times Holy, Holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory. Isaiah 6:3 Many of the verses of Isaiah are familiar to us as beloved passages we read and sing each Christmas and Easter season. But Isaiah is more than just holiday seasonal reading. Thought by some church fathers to be fi rst and greatest apostle and evangelist, Isaiah speaks of God s relationship to the prophet, the people, the kings and the servant. Isaiah s message invites us to explore God s personal character and develop a deeper understanding of the living God, the Holy One of Israel. Adult Sunday School We are studying the Bible. We will be viewing and discussing the epic miniseries The Bible. The series is breathtaking in scope and scale. The Bible miniseries features powerful performances, exotic locales and dazzling visual effects that breathe spectacular life into Genesis through Revelations.

Page 8 Seeds of the Spirit Living Each Day as a Steward! October 2014 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58). Dear Friends in Christ, I greet you in the name of our risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! With excitement, I write this letter to tell you about the stewardship program that we will begin on Sunday, November 9 th titled Living Each Day as a Steward! During this three-week p rogram, both our worship services and our adult Bible classes will focus on the work of the Holy Spirit through Word and Sacrament as he teaches us how to live each day as stewards. We will use God s Holy Word to discover more about who we are as God s people, what God s purpose is for our lives, and how we can live each and every day as stewards rather than limiting stewardship to one day a week or one period of time during the church year. I pray that each of you will avail yourself of the opportunities to worship Christ, our Chief Steward, and to learn about his will for your life. It is also my prayer that our congregation might be energized and equipped to live each day as stewards for the praise and glory of our Lord, to build up the faithful, and to reach the unchurched for his Kingdom. Commitment Sunday will be November 23 rd. I m asking that you make a fi nancial commitment to the Lord s work through our church for the coming year. Your support enables the work of the Lord gets done day after day through our church. Please bring the enclosed commitment form to church with you on Commitment Sunday. God s blessings on your continued faithful stewardship of the blessings he has entrusted to your care. Seeds of the Spirit Page 9 Special Services in October and November Reformation Day Service Sunday, October 26 The Heritage of Faith As we worship on Reformation Sunday we remember the pattern of powerful words handed down to us by the spirit-inspired prophets and apostles. We will hear the truth that salvation is a free gift of God through faith in Jesus Christ. As part of the celebration, we will share in the fi rst communion for our youth. All Saints Sunday, November 2 The Saints in Light We join with all the Saints in Light to praise Jesus, the lamb who was slain for us. We will celebrate our place among the saints, a plance won for us by our Savior as part of this service. We will remember those saints who have been called to their heavely home this past year. Thanksgiving Eve Service Wednesday, November 26, 7:00 pm Ever Thankful Hearts Join us as we are reminded that the Bible tells us to give thanks every day, not just Thanksgiving Day. We are called to live out our thankfulness to God for his many gifts day in and day out. The offering that evening will go to ELCA World Hunger Program. In addition, there will be an opportunity to provide a thank offering of food staples for PCU.
Did you know Each quarter we send our benevolence offerings to the agencies we support in their ministry. Did you know that they write a thank-you letter to us each time they receive our gift? Those letters are posted on the bulletin board next to the Welcome Center. Each expresses their gratitude and often contain a personal message from the CEO or administrative offi cial. Please take a few moments and check them out. Harrison Rally Day...Thank you to everyone who supported LCM in the parade and also at the booth.
