Grandpa s Favorite Christmas! Black Forest Lutheran Church Christmas Program Grandpa s Favorite Christmas You are invited to our annual Christmas Program on Sunday, Dec. 16. The program will start at 6:30p, but we d love to have you and your family attend the Grove prior, which starts at 5:00p. The Grove has been a positive experience for several of our members. It includes music, a message and a potluck in a very cozy atmosphere. Of course, the Christmas program this year will include the reading of the Christmas story, but leading up to it, we will visit some troops serving along the front lines in France during the Great War. See what happens in our hearts because of the love God sent in the form of a babe so many years ago. Following the program we would love to share in dessert - Christmas cookies! Please bring a plate to share. We will provide hot cocoa and cider. Cantata both services on Sunday, Dec. 16 Appalachian Winter A Cantata for Christmas

The day being so close to the official first day of winter, we ask that you bring your favorite hearty soup to share or delicious bread (i.e. comfort food for the cold days ahead). Jeremy will speak of his vision as our Youth and Family Ministry Director and hopefully we can spend some time singing Christmas carols together.

New Year, New Changes! This past fall has been a wonderful time for me. I ve absolutely loved getting The Grove off the ground and having the opportunity to get to know you all more through confirmation, coffee, Sunday mornings and Theology on Tap. Throughout the last few months I ve received some wonderful feedback on what you all love about these programs as well as some requests for how to make everything even more well-oiled. With that in mind, there are a handful of changes (outlined below) which will take affect in January. As always, please check out www.thegrovebflc.com for more info about everything going on in the youth and family ministry as well as to leave any additional feedback you may have about these changes. I m excited for everything coming in 2019 and I can t wait to be a part of it with all of you! In Christ, Jeremy

Starting in January: The Grove will switch to being once a month. For January, The Grove will be on Sunday, January 13 th from 5-6p. Following The Grove that night, we will have an all family Pajama Party movie night and watch from 6:30-8p. Second Sunday Support will now be called, Growing Together. It will be a time for parents of either children or teenagers to gather and discuss the joys and challenges of parenthood and will meet once a month on varying dates. In January, Growing Together will be on Friday the 25 th from 6:30-8p. On Wednesday nights (Beginning January 9 th ) we will be starting a weekly youth group for middle and high school students called, Summit. Summit will meet from 6-7p and be filled with games, hangout time, and a devotion. Confirmation will then be from 7-8p. Sunday School will remain the same as it currently is for all students in elementary, middle and high school on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:15a. Additionally, starting on January 13 th, we will have a special worship time for children during the 10:30a service called, Wiggle Worship. Children will be invited to go with Jeremy and other leaders to the Mountain Room (old youth directors office) following the Kid s Chat and returning to the larger congregation during the Passing of the Peace. During Wiggle Worship children will sing, dance, and play games, before rejoining their parents in the sanctuary for the time of offering and communion. Theology on Tap will be no more. Instead for all young and old adults, as well as interested high school students, we will be starting The Black Forest Boardgame Group at Black Forest Brewery on every 2 nd and 4 th Thursday from 6:30-8p (beginning on January 10 th ). This is a wonderful time to hang out and get to know some great people and share some of your favorite games!

Quilters! The quilters have been hard at work making items to donate to Cristo Rey in El Paso. These ladies made 122 quilts and 17 stuffed dogs, which will be distributed by Pastor Rosemary to the congregation, community, and Dr. Mendoza s ministry in Juarez. Thank you, ladies, for using your gifts to support our mission congregation in El Paso. Also, thank you to Karen Pforr for taking them down to El Paso. Brew Coffee and Clean-Up Black Forest members love fellowship hour, but this popular time really requires more volunteers to make coffee and clean the kitchen. Even if for only one Sunday per year, help would be appreciated. Those wanting to help may call the office or sign-up or sheet in the kitchen.
