Welcome to St. Michael Church PRAYERS BEFORE WORSHIP Gracious God, through a vision your sent forth Paul to preach the gospel and called the women to the place of prayer on the Sabbath. Grant that we may be sent like Paul and be found like Lydia, our hearts responsive to your word and open to go where you lead us. Amen Dearest Lord and Savior, we are thankful for visions of a heavenly city beyond the dirt, grime, pollution and crime of our earthly cities. We long for peace amidst the tensions, the conflicts, the terrorism and the open wars of our world. Set our troubled hearts at rest; banish our fears; keep us secure in the eye of life s storms. Amen WORSHIP NOTES Visions abound in the readings for the sixth Sunday of Easter. Paul has a vision about what to do. John has a vision of what will be. The risen Lord Jesus provides visions of peace that passes human understanding and power beyond human imagination. Persons with impairments - St. Michael offers to anyone with a hearing difficulty a small, remote personal speaker. We invite our guests who may need this to ask an usher for one. We welcome any comments concerning St. Michael's efforts to accommodate persons with impairments or disabilities. An enlarged copy of the bulletin is available. Please see an usher if you would like to use one. Ephesians 1:15-23, and Luke 24:44-52, and the Seventh Sunday of Easter, May 8, are: Acts 16:16:34, Psalm 97, Revelation 22:12-14, 16-7, 20-21, and John 17:20-26. We remember the following members and friends of St. Michael in prayer this week: Art Cover, Jay, Diana Pate, and Eric Umbenhauer. ALTAR FLOWERS are sponsored to the glory of God by Greg Darr in memory of Ross Darr. FELLOWSHIP HOUR is sponsored to the glory of God by Louise Palmer. ASCENSION SERVICE The Ascension Service is scheduled for Thursday, May 5, at 7:00 p.m. Please join us. ASCENSION RECEPTION There will be a wine and cheese reception following the Ascension Service on Thursday, May 5. If you are able to attend, please consider making an hors d'oeuvre or a dessert for this reception. COMMUNITY AID The Community Aid collection box is here! Please use it to dispose of all of your gently used clothing, bedding, and small household items. Also, they are currently in need of men's shoes. As a result of our association with Community Aid we will receive compensation for the donated items as well as vouchers that the pastor can use to help the needy. MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY St. Michael needs a few more hosts for the Helping Hands feeding program. The hours are 3:00-6:00 p.m. The days needed are one Sunday a month and every other Thursday. The Thursday position could be filled by one person or shared by two people. We are averaging around 100 people every meal, and our diners are very appreciative. Please talk to Mike Ennis or John and Susan Wesley for more job details if you might be interested in helping. BE A DIGITAL EVANGELIST! Check in with us on Facebook. Tweet your thoughts about the sermon, or share the Peace with your online friends. The world is at your fingertips with a smart phone, and it can be a great tool for sharing the Good News. If you need the wireless password, just ask an usher for it. 2 15

now and forever. Amen. LORD'S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen COMMUNION We stand to receive communion during the Easter Season. Communion is open to anyone who seeks to respond to Christ's love. To receive communion the assembly approaches the altar rail by the center aisle in two rows. The pastor will come around and place the host (bread) in your hand, an assisting minister will have the wine. You may receive the wine either by common cup, or from the pouring chalice. To receive from the pouring chalice take a glass from the tray at the front of the center aisle. After you use the glass you may place it in the tray on the window sill as you return to your seat by the side aisle. COMMUNION SONG PRAYER OF THE DAY 12 5

+++WORD+++ FIRST READING Acts 16:9-15 9 During the night Paul had a vision: there stood a man of Macedonia pleading with him and saying, Come over to Macedonia and help us. 10 When he had seen the vision, we immediately tried to cross over to Macedonia, being convinced that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them. 11 We set sail from Troas and took a straight course to Samothrace, the following day to Neapolis, 12 and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of Macedonia and a Roman colony. We remained in this city for some days. 13 On the sabbath day we went outside the gate by the river, where we supposed there was a place of prayer; and we sat down and spoke to the women who had gathered there. 14 A certain woman named Lydia, a worshiper of God, was listening to us; she was from the city of Thyatira and a dealer in purple cloth. The Lord opened her heart to listen eagerly to what was said by Paul. 15 When she and her household were baptized, she urged us, saying, If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come and stay at my home. And she prevailed upon us. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. PSALM Psalm 67 The refrain is sung by the cantor, repeated by the assembly. The psalm is sung antiphonally by the cantor and assembly, beginning with the cantor. The assembly sings the refrain where marked. May God be merciful to us and bless us; may the light of God s face shine upon us. Let your way be known upon earth, your saving health a- mong all nations. Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you. Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide all the na- tions on earth. R 6 Praise to you for creating the heavens and the earth. Praise to you for saving the earth from the waters of the flood. Praise to you for bringing the Israelites safely through the sea. Praise to you for leading your people through the wilderness to the land of milk and honey. Praise to you for the words and deeds of Jesus, your anointed one. Praise to you for the death and resurrection of Christ. Praise to you for your Spirit poured out on all nations. In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. With this bread and cup we remember our Lord's passover from death to life as we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. O God of resurrection and new life: Pour out your Holy Spirit on us and on these gifts of bread and wine. Bless this feast. Grace our table with your presence. Come, Holy Spirit. Reveal yourself to us in the breaking of the bread. Raise us up as the body of Christ for the world. Breathe new life into us. Send us forth, burning with justice, peace, and love. Come, Holy Spirit. With your holy ones of all times and places, with the earth and all its creatures, with sun and moon and stars, we praise you, O God, blessed and holy Trinity, 11

DIALOGUE PREFACE...we praise your name and join their unending hymn: Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you. The earth has brought forth its increase; God, our own God, has blessed us. May God give us blessing, and may all the ends of the earth stand in awe. R SECOND READING Revelation 21:10, 22-22:5 10 And in the spirit [one of the angels] carried me away to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. 22 I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. 23 And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. 25 Its gates will never be shut by day and there will be no night there. 26 People will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations. 27 But nothing unclean will enter it, nor anyone who practices abomination or falsehood, but only those who are written in the Lamb s book of life. 22:1 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 through the middle of the street of the city. On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3 Nothing accursed will be found there any more. But the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him; 4 they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 And there will be no more night; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION The proper verse is sung by the choir; then Alleluia is repeated. THANKSGIVING AT THE TABLE Blessed are you, O God of the universe. Your mercy is everlasting and your faithfulness endures from age to age. 10 7

Those who love me will keep my word, and my Fa- ther will love them,* and we will come to them and make our home with them. GOSPEL John 14:23-29 The holy gospel according to John. Glory to you, O Lord. 23 Jesus answered [Judas (not Iscariot),] Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; and the word that you hear is not mine, but is from the Father who sent me. 25 I have said these things to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. 28 You heard me say to you, I am going away, and I am coming to you. If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I. 29 And now I have told you this before it occurs, so that when it does occur, you may believe. The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. GOSPEL PROCESSION I Want To Walk As A Child Of The Light elw 815 SERMON HYMN OF THE DAY In Christ Called To Baptize elw 575 NICENE CREED We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, 8 true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION PEACE Hear us, O God. / Your mercy is great. The peace of Christ be with you always. And also with you. The assembly shares the Lord s peace with those nearby. +++MEAL+++ MUSICAL OFFERING I Love To Tell The Story arranged by Doug Beach OFFERING HYMN We Place Upon Your Table, Lord Elw 467 OFFERING PRAYER 9
