Because of the Acts 2 scripture read on Pentecost Sunday, it has come to represent the Holy Spirit dancing on the heads of the first disciples in the form of tongues of fire, and thus, the Holy Spirit itself. It is the liturgical color for Pentecost, Reformation Sunday, festivals of the martyrs, Maundy Thursday, Palm Sunday, and for the ordination or funerals of ministers.
