25 th Sunday in Ordinary Time A Recipe for a Quiet and Tranquil Life by Rev. William J. Reilly B eloved. First of all, I ask that supplications prayers, petitions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone, for kings and for all in authority, that we may lead quiet and tranquil life in all devotion and dignity. This is good and pleasing to God our savior, who wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth. For there is one God. There is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus who gave himself as ransom for all. Paul wrote an encouraging note to Timothy and we have a chance to both read it and apply it for our spiritual well being. We are taught all the elements of prayer adoration, contrition, thanks and supplication, as we have noted before ACTS. As I examine my prayer life, I want to include all these elements in what I include as prayer. Timothy also is reminded of God s will and His will for us all salvation and encounter with the Truth. These are not earned but are offered as gifts, for which I can ask and receive. The reason for it is the reminder that Jesus is the one mediator, the savior. As labor talks, contracts are often brokered by a mediator or arbitrator, so Jesus represents us, has done all is required, and only asks us to sing on. In Paul s words it leads us to more quiet and tranquil lives. It is a Catholic program called Women of Grace already established in many parishes throughout the country. We will offer a choice of two meeting times in the fall: Monday mornings, 10:00-11:30 in the Parish Hall, and Monday evenings 7:00-8:30 in the Parish Life Center. Dates of the meetings will be October 3, 17, and 24, and November 14 and 21. Women of Grace uses a book and study guide to provide discussion material, as well as a DVD presentation. Discussions can take many forms, led by the facilitator and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This program is designed to help women explore Mary and the lives of other female saints, incorporating Scripture quotations and selections from the Catholic Catechism. Material presented is for personal meditation, growth in feminine spirituality, and practical application to life situations. Anyone who desires to progress in the spiritual life, find the support of others, and deepen her knowledge of Catholic teaching is welcome to attend. There is no commitment to attend every week.
