Go Tell It on the Mountain ELW No. 290 Go tell it on the mountain, Over the hills and ev rywhere; Go tell it on the mountain That Jesus Christ is born!
While shepherds kept their watching O er silent flocks by night, Behold, throughout the heavens There shone a holy light.
Go tell it on the mountain, Over the hills and ev rywhere; Go tell it on the mountain That Jesus Christ is born!
The shepherds feared and trembled When, lo, above the earth Rang out the angel chorus That hailed our Savior s birth.
Go tell it on the mountain, Over the hills and ev rywhere; Go tell it on the mountain That Jesus Christ is born!
Down in a lonely manger The humble Christ was born; And God sent us salvation That blessed Christmas morn.
Go tell it on the mountain, Over the hills and ev rywhere; Go tell it on the mountain That Jesus Christ is born! Text: African American spiritual, refrain; John W. Work Jr., 1872-1925, stanzas, alt.
LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT CANDLE ELW Hymn No. 240 Light One Candle to Watch for Messiah vss. 1-4
CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS L: With humility we confess our sins before God and one another. Pause for silence and reflection. L: God of promise and hope, C: So often we fall short, failing to be all that you have created us to be. We pester you with questions, Why? and Where are you? We lack faith in your promises of deliverance and hope. Forgive us for all that we have done to harm you, others, and ourselves.
Walk with us in this time of Advent, so that through our journey we may be made clean. L: Our holy Lord God knows we are weak, frail creatures. Yet God loves us and refuses to give up on us. Because of God s persistence we are made new again and again. Receive today the entire forgiveness of all your sins. Walk with God on your human journey, for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

THE LORD S PRAYER OUR FATHER, WHO ART IN HEAVEN, HALLOWED BE THY NAME, THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE, ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD; AND FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES, AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US; AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL. FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM, AND THE POWER, AND THE GLORY, FOREVER AND EVER. AMEN.
INVITATION TO COMMUNION P: You restore our souls, O God. Feed us now on your nourishing body and blood, that we would be beacons of light in a dark world. Come to the Lord s table and enjoy the fellowship of your sisters and brothers in Christ.
I Wonder, As I Wander I wonder as I wander, out under the sky, how Jesus the Savior did come for to die for poor ord n ry people like you and I. I wonder as I wander, out under the sky.
When Mary birthed Jesus, all in a cow s stall. came wise men and farmers and shepherds and all. and high from the heavens a star s light did fall; the promise of the ages it then did recall.
If Jesus had wanted for any wee thing. a star in the sky or a bird on the wing, or all of God s angels in heav n to sing he surely could have had it, cause he was the king.
I wonder as I wander. Out under the sky. How Jesus the Savior did come for to die For poor ord n ry people like you and I. I wonder as I wander, out under the sky.
POST-COMMUNION BLESSING P: The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in his grace. C: Amen. POST-COMMUNION PRAYER P: It is only through Your grace, O Lord, that we are able to approach Your table, C: and it is only through Your Son s mercy that we are forgiven. Empower us to share that same grace and mercy with all of creation. Amen.
READING MATTHEW 1:18-25 Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly. But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means, God is with us. When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife, but had no marital relations with her until she had borne a son; and he named him Jesus. L: THE WORD OF THE LORD. C: THANKS BE TO GOD.
