Saturday Sabbath Service Welcome to El Shaddai Ministries! Each Saturday Pastor Mark Biltz will be teaching a series on "The Road to Emmaus" and The Gospels & Acts from a Hebraic perspective 5/14/11 "The Road to Emmaus" Pastor Mark Biltz BEHAR Part 2 Leviticus 25, 26 & Luke 21, 22 Your Notes This weeks torah portion introduces the significance of the number 7. The 7 th year as the shemittah year, then 7 cycles of 7 to the Jubilee year. The 7 th day shabbat is a type of redemption as well as the 7 th year and the Jubilee year after 7 shemittah years. There are multiple redemptions until the ultimate redemption which comes at a set time. On that day all things return to the default state. Isaiah 5:8 Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth! These laws help people sold into unpayable debts as a way out. This weeks Gospel portion starts with the widow s mite, Luke 21:1-3 And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites. And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all: Mark 12:38-41 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces, And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts: Which devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation. And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. 1 P a g e
Matthew 6:2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. Your Notes Luke 21:5-7 And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said, As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass? Luke 21:37 And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives. Matthew 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? Matthew 26:1,2 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples, Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified. Luke 21:11,12 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake. Luke 21:16-19 And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake. But there shall not an hair of your head perish. In your patience possess ye your souls. Luke 21:20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Luke 21:24,25 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; 2 P a g e
Matthew 24:20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, Vespasian marched in the fall of 69AD and they were afraid it might happen in winter. But Nero died and they returned to Caesarea and wintered by the sea. In spring they marched again and in the spring they set the city. Your Notes Luke 22:7-10 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed. And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat. And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare? And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in. Luke 22:11 "Then you shall say to the master of the house, 'The Teacher says to you, "Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?"' Dead Sea scrolls suggest a messianic title for the Messiah was the Teacher. Isaiah 30:20,21 And though the Lord will give you the bread of trouble and the water of grief, you will no longer put your teacher on one side, but you will see your ta -Teacher: And at your back, when you are turning to the right hand or to the left, a voice will be sounding in your ears, saying, This is the way in which you are to go. Luke 22:15-18 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. Yeshua does not say, You will not Jeremiah 16:14-16 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers. Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks. A second greater exodus followed by another greater Passover with the ultimate banquet in the Kingdom of God. 3 P a g e
After the first exodus we have: Exodus 24:7,8 And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient. And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words. Your Notes And after this second great exodus He will again at the great Banquet, lift the cup and bless the wine which has been preserved since the creation of the world. Psalm 116:13 I will take the cup of salvation(s), and call upon the name of the LORD. In Jewish tradition all 4 cups at the Seder constitute one cup. How appropriate, they are called Cos Yeshuot or the cup of Yeshua s. And Yeshua says to do these in remembrance of Me. Luke 22:60,61 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew. And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. The Mishna says that they do not raise chickens in Jerusalem on account of the Temple. The smell of chicken coops would not be conducive to worship. The Temple crier was responsible for spotting daylight and announcing when the morning sacrifice might commence. "It is daylight" he would announce from his watchpost, The whole eastern sky is lit." The priests on duty would inquire, "As far as Hebron?" The crier would respond, "As far as Hebron." Then when the service was to commence he would cry out, "Arise, ye priests for your service, Levites for your platform, Israel for your post!" 4 P a g e
