The Directr wrks clsely with the Rabbi, staff, and lay cmmittees t implement a cherent visin fr cngregatinal learning and engagement that permeates all ages and stages f cngregants lives. The Directr is the key administratr fr TBI s yuth and teen educatinal prgramming, including Talmud Trah, TBI s religius schl fr grades K 7. This psitin reprts t ur Rabbi fr prgram, curriculum, and matters f Jewish practice and t the Executive Directr administratively. Psitin t begin summer 2019. Key tasks: Talmud Trah and yuth prgramming Develps, articulates, and implements the strategic directin fr TBI s religius schl and related prgramming, aligning the gals and structure with the cmmunity s cre values, in cllabratin with the Rabbi, Executive Directr and lay leadership. Develps and implements curriculum and prgrams as needed, with input frm Rabbi, Talmud Trah Advisry Cmmittee, and ther lay leadership. Develps and implements hliday family educatinal prgramming and prvides supprt fr cmmunity prgrams fr hlidays including but nt limited t Simchat Trah, Tu B Shvat, and Ym Haatzmaut. Recruits, trains, and supervises teachers and student assistants (madrichim). Prvide assistance and supprt t Bar/Bat Mitzvah students and their families, including c-planning with the Rabbi family learning (limmud) and related prgramming fr 6th and 7th graders and their families. Attends and prvides supprt fr cmmunity hliday events. Crdinate develpment and implementatin f teen prgrams, including Rsh Chdesh--It s a Girl Thing and Shevet Achim. Recruits and supervises directr fr Camp Chaverim, day camp fr grades K--5. Supervises implementatin f all prcesses, including registratin, class placement, calendaring, and cmmunicatins.
Cmmunity educatin Engagement Administrative In cnsultatin with Rabbi, Cmmunity Educatin cmmittee, and Executive Directr, develp visin fr multi-generatinal cmmunity educatin in keeping with cmmunity s cre values. Facilitates adult prgramming and teaches adult classes as needed. Cllabrates with the Rabbi in recruiting and training new lay leaders and prviding nging supprt t lay leaders. Remains current with research, trends, and develpments in multi-generatinal Jewish learning and brings best practices t ur staff, vlunteers, and learning cmmunity. Leads Shabbat services nce a mnth (including family services). Identifies and engages with families new t r cnsidering TBI/Talmud Trah fr their children. Develps and implements fundraising effrts t supprt the Talmud Trah budget. Supervises ne administrative assistant (20 hurs/week) and parent/cmmunity vlunteers (as needed). Develps and manages the budget fr Talmud Trah, Camp Chaverim, and related prgramming, wrking with the Finance cmmittee and Executive Directr. Presents regular updates t the TBI bard. Cmmunicates visin and prgrams t the cngregatinal cmmunity via emails, newsletter, and scial media (with assistance frm vlunteers and staff). Required qualificatins: 2+ years wrk experience in Jewish pedaggy. Master s degree in Jewish educatin, and/r rabbinic r cantrial rdinatin with a fcus n educatin (i.e., rabbi-educatr r cantr-educatr). Hebrew and liturgical prficiency. Essential skills and knwledge: Experience develping and implementing educatinal prgrams fr a wide range f ages and interests. Experience wrking with diverse grups (including different learning styles, Jewish identities, sexual rientatins, gender identities, etc.). Experience develping and verseeing curriculum. Hurs, salary, and benefits: The Directr f Cmmunity Educatin is a full-time psitin. The Directr must be available t wrk Wednesday afternns/evenings and Sunday mrnings/afternns during the schl year, as well as an average f ne Shabbat a mnth plus selected Jewish hlidays, but may therwise flexibly schedule the wrk week. Salary range $60,000 $70,000 (based n experience). Temple Beth Israel was riginally affiliated with the Cnservative mvement but changed affiliatin t the Recnstructinist mvement in the 1990s t accmmdate changing cmmunity nrms arund intermarriage, LGBTQ acceptance and thelgy. Our current Rabbi, Ruhi Sphia Mtzkin Rubenstein, was hired in 2015. Our previus Rabbi, Yitzhak Husbands-Hankin, served as cantr and then rabbi fr mre than 30 years and remains in the cmmunity as Rabbi Emeritus. Our staffing als includes a full time Executive Directr, a Prgram Directr, a Talmud Trah Directr which this psitin will replace, a Pre-Schl Directr, teachers in ur prgrams, and several peple prviding administrative supprt (including part-time supprt fr Talmud Trah specifically) Our religius schl, Talmud Trah, has classes fr ages 5 t 13. The prgram meets twice a week, n Sunday mrnings and Wednesday afternns, with age-based chrt classes, skillbased Hebrew classes, and electives. We als have a week-lng Jewish day camp each summer, Camp Chaverim, as well as enrichment days when the public schls are clsed. Our Teen Prgramming includes Rsh Chdesh: It s a Girl Thing, Shevet Achim fr bys, and ceducatinal learning prgrams. Our Adult Educatinal Prgramming is currently run by a cmmittee and verseen by the Executive Directr in cnsultatin with the Rabbi. There is great diversity f belief and practice, which is bth a strength and a challenge when trying t craft diverse prgramming t appeal t families whse cnnectin t Judaism may be based religiusly, culturally, histrically, and therwise. While we have expanded intergeneratinal prgramming in recent years, there is a desire fr mre. There is a perceptin that the Talmud Trah is discnnected frm the rest f the TBI cmmunity. It is ur hpe that the Directr f Cmmunity Educatin will help bridge different parts f ur cmmunity. Our greater Eugene-Springfield cmmunity: Eugene is a classic cllege twn, with a metrplitan-area ppulatin f abut 216,000. Eugene is small enugh t bike acrss but large enugh t ffer galleries, music venues, and restaurants t discver. Eugene has mre wrking artists, writers, and musicians per capita than Prtland. Outdr recreatin is key t the Eugene lifestyle, with rivers, muntains, and an cean all within easy reach. Our cmmunity is diverse, has an infrmal style, and respects differences.
