We will be creating a pumpkin patch in our classroom the week of October 16th. Each child will need a small pumpkin that they can use in some activities (writing, graphing, describing, measuring and comparing). The pumpkin should not be any bigger than what will fit in their backpack. Our first activity will be to write a detailed description of the pumpkin in class without revealing the pumpkin s owner. Please write only your child s number on the bottom of the pumpkin with a permanent marker before sending it to school. The pumpkins are due on Monday, October 16th. Please do not send the pumpkins to school before this date. Daily Coin Challenge on October 16-20th Help raise money to buy books for OLV Library an for underprivileged children who are in need of new books and education resources! The winning grade level wins a pizza party! Penny Monday (10/16), Nickel Tuesday (10/17), Dime Wednesday (10/18), Quarter Thursday (10/19), Any Coin and Bills Friday (10/20) The annual Scholastic Book Fair at OLV will be from Monday, October 16th to Friday, October 21st. The library will be open from 7:30 A.M. 4:30 P.M. during the book fair. Thursday, October 19th will be WILD WEST DRESS UP/Jeans Day Sharing and Caring. Students who bring in at least 2 canned goods will be allowed to dress up to celebrate Book Fair Week and help Oak Mountain Missions. Thursday and Friday, October 19th and October 20th are NOON Dismissal days for Parent-Teacher conferences.

The week of October 23rd, we will be discussing about Saints. Please help your child choose a saint they would like to report and make a sock or stick puppet of their saint. The children need to write the name of their saint in their journal by Wednesday, October 18th. This will let me know which saint they have chosen and so we do not have 12 reports on the same saint. Puppets and reports are due by Tuesday, October 31st. This project will be counted as a test grade. No homework passes will be allowed. The saint report information and form is on page 4 and 5 of this newsletter. You can go to www.webelieveweb.com and click on The Lives of the Saints to get ideas on a saint. Our Halloween Party is on Tuesday, October 31st at 2:15. Thank you in advance to those of you who signed up to send in items and to those who will be helping. Pizza Hut Book-it forms for October are due back to school on Monday, November 1st. TOPICS of the Week: Religion Chapter 8 Religion test will be on Wednesday, October 18th. Chapter 9: God Gives Us Laws. They will need to recite the 10 Commandments by Wednesday, October 25th. Chapter 9 Test will be on Friday, October 27th. Spelling The spelling contract words for the next 2 weeks will be the same. The next spell ing test will be on Friday, October 28th. -We will read books on pumpkins, bats, spiders and skeletons for the next 2 weeks. Grammar/English Review plurals, capitalization and contractions Math- Add within 100 using breaking apart to add and using compensation Social Studies Continue the unit on Places Near and Far Science Discuss their ideas about matter; pumpkins, bats, spiders and skeletons.

All Saints Day November 1, 2017 Wednesday, November 1, 2017 is All Saints Day. We would like the children to make a puppet and complete a report on their saint. This report should be done in first person. Such as: Hi my name is Saint. I lived in/during. Also. include 2 facts about the saint. The report can be read not memorized.
