KOINONIA That the communication (Koinonia) (pronounced: coy no nee a) of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. Philemon 1:6 NORWIN ALLIANCE CHURCH APRIL 2014 Passion Week Schedule of Events Happy Easter to everyone. Our Loving Lord of heaven and earth has risen from the dead! The comments below on Jesus cross and resurrection are from John Piper, R.C. Sproul, Charles Wesley, and Philip Yancy. The cross shows the infinite love of God. The cross shows the infinite wrath of God. The cross shows God s righteousness, heaven, and forgiveness as a gift. The cross stands against man s righteousness and self salvation. The cross shows the terrible reality of our sin. The cross is more powerful than wisdom or miraculous signs. The cross is God s glory in the work of our salvation. The resurrection shows Jesus is Lord of all. The resurrection shows Jesus victory over sin, death, and hell. The resurrection shows God redeems the physical world. The resurrection shows God gets all the credit for man s salvation. The resurrection shows man gets no credit for his own salvation. The resurrection shows Jesus is the giver of eternal life. The resurrection shows our life with Christ has no end. Heaven and hell are at stake every day. Are you right with God? KOINONIA Page 5 VIGNETTES by VIRGINIA Do you like to people-watch? If you have even the slightest interest in the affairs of men, an interesting, educational and eye-opening experience occurs when you have the opportunity to study the comings and goings of the human race. Human nature kicks in and a person s curiosity might begin to ponder some questions. For example: Who are these people? Where is he/she going? Where has he/she been? And with whom? Why? Why not? How many others are involved in that person s life - giving experiences? What is happening in his/her life now? What has happened in the past to make his/her life what it is today? Do they have another member of the human race who cares about them? AND walks beside him/her? Is he/she alone? AND does he/she need to be alone every once in awhile to unclutter the NOISE of his/ her life? DOES HE/SHE KNOW JESUS? DOES HE/SHE KNOW THAT JESUS LOVES HIM/ HER? All of us are BUSY, BUSY, BUSY. Rightfully so, our families are #1 priority. God s Word also admonishes us to: Care for the widow, the orphan, the prisoner, our neighbor, the sick, the hungry, the enemy; those who laugh, and struggle, and toil, and sing, and mourn, and weep - - as opposed to cry - - those who are angry (and maybe do not know why); and those who are just plain bone-tired. Learn to Crochet/Knit Several people have shown interest in learning to crochet or knit. The Prayer Shawl Ministry here at Norwin Alliance Church has members who are willing to teach these crafts. If you are interested in learning, please contact Mardy Rogers at 724-863-3210 or email at mardogers@verizon.net. We have reserved the Fellowship Hall for Saturday, April 26th between 9am and Noon for this event. We need to have an idea of how many want to participate so we can have enough teacher. We do have two members who are left handed and can help lefties. So, come and have fun learning a new skill. Details about supplies you will need to bring will be given when you contact Mardy. The Women s Corner By Janis Swope Sometimes you just need to get away and this time the Lord provided just what was needed. The weekend of March 14-16, I attended the Ladies Retreat at Penn-York Campground in northern Pennsylvania. This retreat was sponsored by the Coudersport Alliance and the Penn -York Campground. Shelli Prindle and Hope & Passion Ministries, Inc. took center stage at this retreat with Shelli speaking at three separate sessions. Shelli s messages were like life to my soul. Her message really ministered to me at a time when I needed it. Sadly, my friend and Ladies Bible Study member, Kathy Bourne, had just gone home to be with the Lord and that had really touched me in a way I had not expected. I was also going through a time of doubting myself. You know, doubting if I were doing a good enough job leading those dear women of the Bible Study and even wondering if I was doing anything right! When this mood hits me I just continued on page 5

Page 6 KOINONIA don t go half way, I jump in up to my bald eyebrows! I even wondered if I was supposed to be on the retreat! I believe these doubting times can happen every so often to all of us. If not, please let me know! All I know is that God is faithful and provided what I needed to hear at the right time. I came home with my spirit refreshed and a better outlook. Let me encourage you with the confidence that can only come from God He is able to meet every need and will always be there when we turn to Him. A big Thank You goes out to Shelli Prindle, Bria Craycraft and Karen Fulton for the work they had to do to make this retreat happen. Thank you to all the women who attended: those I knew and those I met there. We are blessed with a pretty amazing group of women at our church! Can you imagine that seven women shared a cabin with two bathrooms and we never had a disagreement! As I mentioned earlier, the Ladies Bible Study lost one of its beloved women, Kathy Bourne. We will all miss her laughter and insights she provided. We know that she is at rest and pain free in heaven with her heavenly Father. For this we rejoice. The Ladies Bible Study has just finished discussing Jezebel. Here is one woman who was bad to the bone! As I write this our next Bad Girl will be Michal, David s first wife and Saul s daughter. Looking ahead to when this series is finished, we will be looking at some of the main doctrines of our faith and how we got our Bible. If you would like to join us, we would love to have you! We meet Monday mornings at 10:30 in the craft room. And as always, we ll have the coffee on! The Last Word Since my heart was touched at 17, I believe I have never awakened from sleep, in sickness nor in health, by day or by night, without my first awakening thought being how best I might serve the Lord. Elizabeth Fry (1780-1845) Elizabeth was an English Victorian prison reformer who began her great work by making baby clothes for unclothed babies of Newgate Prison. It was her moment of outrage and inspiration.
