Back Row: Mike Auliff, Rich Golinghorst, Gene Meyer, Marty O Boyle, Kim Wilkins, Leroy Paustian, Dr. Anita Wubbena, Kelly Meyer, Mike Brown, and Don Brandt. These members and several others gathered at North Scott High School last Saturday to help in the Basketball Special Olympics. Students from all over Eastern Iowa were there to have fun, learn better basketball skills and capture the hearts of all those people there to help them. Service in the World Glen Keppy of North Scott Rotary is presently in Uganda under the auspices of CNFA ( Citizens network for Foreign Affairs). He is helping in the organizations of farmer copperatives to aid the small farmers of the world. George Ntibarikure wrote of a major coup in this trip as follows: Glen enjoyed his assignment and the host too was impressed. A side from this, it so happened that the Minister visited the district where Glen was and they had interaction and the minister could not hide his excitement and invited Glen to his Kampala office. You know meeting a Minister in the office is not easy here and we as CNFA we used the opportunity to go with Glen but more so for the Minister to know how Glen came into the country. The meeting was a good one and for sure the Minister was happy with our approach of going down to the grass roots. Glen left today morning to Kisoro but unfortunately I will only join him in Masaka to meet with the two coops. George Ntibarikure, Country Director Gods Mercy Orphanage Glen is also working to expedite our support of an orphanage project in Uganda. He is meeting with the orphanage and The supporting Rotary Clubs. Our goal is to gain on of the first new GLOBAL GRANTS under Rotary International, which with all matches will be almost $35,000. Co-sponsoring clubs with full recognition are being sought to help raise the initial portion of the project of $7500. This can be across District Lines. If you or your club has an interest contact Dennis Peterson at NSRotary@aol.com or Bill Tubbs at The North Scott Press.

THIS FRIDAY AT THE STEEPLEGATE Our Own North Scott Rotary Member, Jeremy Kaiser, Director, will present: Life in Scott County Juvenile Detention. Becky Bray, Host. Junior Rotarians present. Steve Suiter presiding. The Scott County Juvenile Detention Center is a short term, 16 bed co-ed facility. The Center offers more than short term security. In compliance with laws and standards established by the State of Iowa, the program is designed to define limits on behaviors and hold youth accountable for their behaviors. The Center began taking youth for detention on December 1, 1980, with an occupancy of 5 youth, in FY 86/87 this was expanded to 6 beds. Again in 1994, it was necessary to expand the Center to 10 beds. The Juvenile Detention Center most recent expansion was finished in 2003. Staff is pleased with the new facility that will be safer and more secure. Among the changes, the center has increased capacity by six beds for a total of 16 beds. Valentine Party 2013
